Update from the States

Illinois Calling for Support From Illinois Physicians

The Illinois Friends of Midwives and the Coalition for Illinois Midwifery are working hard on the HB4364 – The Home Birth Safety Act.
According to the Home Birth Safety Act website, about 800 - 1000 Illinois families give birth at home each year, yet a legal, licensed provider is available in less than 10 of 102 Illinois counties. The Home Birth Safety Act would license Certified Professional Midwives in Illinois.

The bill is currently facing opposition from the Illinois Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics, the Illinois Academy of Family Physicians, the Illinois Osteopathic Medical Society, and the Illinois State Medical Society. To help educate these organizations, a petition is being circulated in Illinois (you can view and share it from here.) Please share widely with communities in Illinois and join us in showing Illinois much needed support!
