July 2020 Newsletter
It has been fantastic to get our programmes up and running again with Primary Sport restarting when schools returned once lockdown was lifted and Community Swim now in full swing in Term 3 along with Wero – Introduction to Fast Moving Water Safety Sessions.  It is fantastic to see all the children smiling and having a fun time.
Community Swim Bus Launch Celebration
On Friday 10th July, we were joined by Mayor Phil Goff, Lady Helen Walker and a number of dignitaries and friends of FYFOD to help us celebrate the launch of our new buses.

Earlier this year through funding from NZCT, Grassroots Trust and the Joyce Fisher Charitable Trust we were able to purchase 2 new buses to replace our 2 existing Community Swim buses which needed to retire from duty. Back in 2019, we were spoilt by Auckland Council who purchased 2 x new buses to replace the ones whose leases had finished.

We thought it was the right time to get everyone together and have a launch celebration and check out how amazing the buses look.  You certainly cannot miss them in bright yellow and black!
Sir Noel Robinson Retires from Foundation Board
After 12 years as a Trustee, Sir Noel Robinson retired from the Foundation’s board in June.  Sir Noel was an inaugural board member and brought with him extensive knowledge and sage advice, which without a doubt was a catalyst to the success of FYFOD to this day.

We cannot thank him enough for all he has done to help the young people of Auckland South.  The Trustees and Management wish him all the best and know he will love spending more time with his family.
Don’t forget to sign up for the Hampton Downs Race Track Run being held on Sunday 16th August.  We have joined forces with Hampton Downs who are long-time supporters of FYFOD, and Papakura Athletics to host a 2 Hour Race Track Run.  The event is open to all ages and fitness levels for runners and walkers, and provides such a unique opportunity to challenge yourself on the 2.7 km motor sport race track.

We are extremely grateful for being selected as their chosen charity. Check out the event page for all the details and to enter.  Race Track Fun Run
YMCA - Intermediate Schools Sports Camps
In August, FYFOD in partnership with YMCA are providing children from low decile Auckland South Intermediate Schools the opportunity to participate in sports camps at Camp Adair in the Hunua Ranges.  Participants will get the opportunity to partake in numerous sports and fun activities.

We would like to introduce Tesema (Tess) Pakileata who has joined Swimgym as the Community Swim Programme Manager.

Tess has an extensive background in aquatics most recently as Team Leader at Auckland Council Tepid Baths, along with being an ex-competitive  swimmer. Welcome to the team!
A big thank you to Grassroots Trust for your ongoing support and rewarding us a grant for funding towards the Fast-Moving Water Safety Sessions held at the Vector Wero Whitewater Park.
