No matter what has happened to our parents as they age, they remain our parents. Cognitive and physical decline doesn't take away their legacy as adults. We may have to provide some care that many would consider demeaning, but given in love, no care is demeaning. Using Big Data to Help Understand the Lives of Family Caregivers
What do family caregivers really do? What is their day like? Remarkably, though there are tens of millions of children, parents, and spouses in the U.S. helping millions of frail older adults and younger people with disabilities, we know very little about their daily experiences. Legal and Financial Planning for Alzheimer's Disease

Info: This program will give valuable information to families and individuals dealing with Alzheimer's disease and other forms of dementia about how to plan for legal and financial needs. Lexington attorney, Helen Bongard, will address issues such as power of attorney, guardianship, and handling the finances and property of a person with dementia. A light dinner will be provided by Morning Pointe free of charge.

Family Caregiver Workshop

Info: This program is specialized for family caregivers and will offer information about Alzheimer’s disease and caregiving and will also provide an opportunity to reflect, regenerate, and gain a new perspective on your caregiving issues.  Local and statewide experts who specialize in aging and Alzheimer’s care will present topics that are valuable to family caregivers of persons with dementia.  This training is designed specifically for family caregivers and is therefore not open to those who are professional caregivers.  Jointly sponsored by the Bluegrass Area Agency on Aging and Independent Living, the UK Sanders Brown Center on Aging, Baptist Health - Lexington, and the Alzheimer’s Association.

Info: The conference will educate the community on the warning signs of elder abuse, how to report abuse and prevention methods to make a safer environment for our most vulnerable populations. Along with exhibit booths, this year's conference will feature keynote speaker, Dr. Gregory Jicha, from the UK Sanders-Brown Center on Aging.
