Transforming Lives; in action with GUAC

Last month, Give us a Chance chair, Ian Simpson, was invited to contribute to Blackburn College’s Global Entrepreneurship Week. Ian spoke to current students about the work that housing organisations do to help transform lives, and create life changing employment opportunities.

Speaking alongside Sayyed Osman from Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council, Ian’s lecture spoke directly to students, and hoped to inspire success and improve understanding of the work the housing organisations are doing to help transform lives.

Speaking after the event, Blackburn College student Pamela spoke about how the work of housing organisations and support of Give us a Chance can touch and inspire people to succeed.

“The people you’re helping are probably just like me, with all the best of intentions, life throws a curveball that you just don’t see coming.

“Sometimes all it takes to transform someone’s life is to make them believe in themselves. I believe that’s what the Give us a Chance partnership does. A job’s not just about earning money, it’s having an identity, a sense of pride, a place in the world that you can claim as your own.

“So, I guess I just wanted to say thank you for reminding me that there are still organisations out there that value more than just profit and loss. I wish you every success in the future and hope you enjoyed your visit with us”.

Pamela’s comments act as a great reminder that without the support that we provide, many people might not be able to reach their potential.
