Radian host Employment Minister, Damian Hinds, on a visit to new homes and community hub
In February GUAC member Radian hosted Hampshire MP and Employment Minister, Damian Hinds, at their recent flagship development, Quebec Park, which sees them provide 100 new homes, 100 new jobs, and a new community hub in Bordon, East Hampshire.
Mr Hinds met Radian staff and apprentices at the Quebec Park café and employment hub site, to learn how Radian is creating new opportunities in the Bordon community.
Thanks to the work on site, 11 local residents have been trained in basic construction skills and received Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) cards, and seven have since been employed in the industry.
In addition to the construction jobs created, a new café will be built on-site and will be part of the community hub building. Launching in autumn 2017, the café’s main aim will be to help young people gain skills in hospitality and catering by providing work placements and job opportunities.
As well as supporting skills and training, the café aims to deliver Bordon’s ‘Healthy Town’ ethos by providing nutritious food and a range of health-centred activities, support local businesses by using fresh local produce where possible, and become a social hub for the existing community and new residents.
Talking on his visit, Mr Hinds commented: “It was encouraging to hear from the Radian team as well as some apprentices about the measurable difference this new establishment will make, not only for Quebec Park residents but the wider Bordon community too.”
GUAC is pleased to see Radian and the sector gaining recognition from the Government for the important work that all our members do. If you’re hosting local MPs, showcasing the employment support you offer, please keep GUAC posted.
