Process

Starting at the beginning...

From my point of view (which, of course this is, because, after all I'm writing), the beginning of the making of a Picture, appears as either a shadowy glimmer or an instant image, fully formed. From that moment, whether a glimmer or a flash, the Picture IS.
Audrey and Hector met after the Variety Show. They were quite different, but they had a lot in common.
The Process has started. A microcosm of life elements I get to participate in. It may make you crazy but that's cool because you’re thinking and thinking is fun.

What follows is a kind of emotional time-line of everything from frustration and confusion to complete happiness. It took me a while to realize that everything that happens, before I even make a mark on the surface, is part of the path leading up to that moment and then what turns out to be the Picture itself. It's tricky though.  A casual, “don't look now,” meditation arrangement of “I'm thinking, but not thinking” in order to see what I'm thinking.

“Let's see, I'll need materials, I'll need to test techniques, think through the various permutations of layout…”  What would this Picture look like if it was a Picture? Follow the Idea and, more importantly, not follow the idea.

Because once the Picture starts, the Picture has its own Identity. So I also have to behave myself. I'm not alone here. It is creating me as I'm creating it.

"Old buddy, old pal, how's it goin’?"
 "I'm fine and You?"
"Hey look over there!"

And we start and we continue.
A dialogue, a symbiosis is necessary. Strange fun. I mean really, what's happening?
But my heart tells me this is very nice, it means something. I feel connected. Not only to my work but to the world of information gathering in my head and the nature (Nature) of my life, a living being, in the World, as the Picture starts to make sense and complete itself.

Sometimes, I have to research something in order to continue.

I made a Picture, you can see here, called 'Book' (… it has fresh, blood red, bunker gun sights…). It's a general comment on the attack on Knowledge. Especially knowledge that is not understood very well. (Unknown Knowledge. There's a title, a book without words?) What we don't understand, we mock and destroy. Still?!

To write the unknown knowledge for 'Book', I needed an unknown written language.  In the text for the 'Chasing Light' series ('The Nutt Gallery ' site:  www.thenuttgallery.com), I mention cataloguing light shapes, 'A language of light'. So, I went to those pages in my notebook and started improvising what would look like characters of a written language.

With practice I was able to write freely and thus create the pages of a possible "book", under a possible attack. Book under attack, Book destroyed! HaHa (evil laugh). And what about the unknown People who might read the book? Are they under attack? Maybe, possibly, who's gonna stop us?

I was in a Radio Shack and they were selling remote Helicopters for $50. I turned to the guy behind me, he was wearing a NPR t-shirt, so I figured he was Human and I said: "Would you like to buy a Drone?" And he said:"You know, I work in that field and you can get a much better Drone on-line."

And so it starts, 'Veranda Drones'..!
… New Pictures, coming soon!
