1155 SW 6th Street (Rear), Miami, FL 33135
I'm so happy to be showing at 6th Street. It's my favorite gallery. It is run by two of my favorite maniacs, co-curators Adal Delgado and Maria Amores. Over the years, they have created one of the only places in Miami where you can see works by artists who do not fit into categories, pushing the edges our perceptions of the world. Adal is curating this exhibit and he has chosen some of my off-the-wall pieces including several from my new "Earthquake Proof" series, constructions mounted on canvas (mostly) featuring corrugated cardboard and/or other materials that are usually discarded, but here they become re-purposed/re-activated to a new and better existence by pastels, paints, cut-outs, and more.
Adal also invited me to make a sound art piece for the opening reception. For this, I expanded a short piece that I had recently created called "Exile" (on the CD album "Echos and Adjustments 3"). The new sound collage, "Exile, the Movie," 79 min and 17 seconds long, follows the enhanced/re-purposed concept. All this will occur in the 6th Street Container alternative art space, an exhibition space the size of a shipping container, itself (re-)purposed to wake up our perceptions. Be there.

"Thinking is Fun"
solo exhibit of abstract pastel drawings by Randy Nutt
1-29-july 2016, M-Th 9am-4pm, Fr 9am-6pm
First National Bank of South Miami, 5750 Sunset Drive, South Miami, FL 33143
You may ask why (on earth) would I be showing in a gallery that is in a bank? Because, well, that's where the money is, silly! I know... artists should give their art away, but that's the way it crumbles in the what's-free-about-it-? enterprise system. Anyway, this gallery is a non-profit publicgallery in a bank. The First National Bank of South Miami has been our bank for 30 years and I've walked through the Wirtz Gallery space many times and thought, "Hey, this is nice." The lighting is excellent and it has a nice feel to it. Then, after our return from the Netherlands, Carol said, "Hey Randy, why not show some work there?" So I sent a proposal to the Curator. A few months went by, I got a letter from Mercedes Cruz with a kind invitation for me to exhibit this summer and then a contract!
So, there you go. Sometimes cool stuff is right in front of you. The show is called "Thinking is Fun" which is an ongoing theme of mine. Our hopes and dreams need to be activated to find out what they are; as they take shape, they are revealed in a world that often discourages such individual inklings. Yet those are the very attributes that would make life better, happier. Some works on this theme that had traveled to the Netherlands will be in this Miami exhibit, but there will be others not exhibited anywhere before, so stop by!
