Missouri Agricultural and Small Business Development Authority Accepting Applications for Rural Small Business Improvement

Meat processors eligible for loan, tax credits

(JEFFERSON CITY, Mo.) – The Missouri Agricultural and Small Business Development Authority (MASBDA) is currently accepting applications for two programs aimed at rural small business improvement, specifically meat processors across the state.

“At a time when Missouri’s economy is recovering from COVID-19, our board members and staff are proud to offer programs that help the Missouri families running these small businesses,” said MASBDA Executive Director Jill Wood. “Our meat processors are critical to our farmers, ranchers and small communities. It’s vital that we have facilities to process Missouri’s agricultural goods.”

Agricultural businesses in towns with populations under 50,000 may be eligible to receive funds from the Missouri Agribusiness Revolving Loan Fund, which can be used to start, acquire, operate or expand an agribusiness. Qualifying agribusinesses may include value-added agriculture enterprises, agriculture support businesses, marketers or retailers of agricultural products, and businesses with emerging agricultural technology. Due to COVID-19, MASBDA is currently offering a fixed interest rate of 4%.

The loan fund will finance 75% of a project cost if it is in a first lien position with a maximum loan of $112,500. If the project is in a second lien position, the loan fund will finance 50% of the project with a maximum loan of $75,000.

The Meat Processing Facility Investment Tax Credit Program is also available to qualifying meat processors interested in modernizing or expanding their facilities. The program is designed to stimulate investment in the meat processing industry in Missouri. The tax credit amount is 25% of the modernization or expansion costs, with a maximum of $75,000 per year.

Additional program details and applications can be found on MASBDA’s website. For more information, please contact the Missouri Agricultural and Small Business Development Authority by phone at (573) 751-2129 or by email at masbda@mda.mo.gov.

PREVIOUS ANNOUNCEMENTS

Missouri is open for business!!  Are you ready?? The Missouri On-site Safety and Health Consultation Program can help you return to work safely. Contact us for a FREE consultation on COVID-19 or assistance with OSHA compliance. No fines. No fees. No reporting findings back to OSHA. We are only here to help Missouri businesses.

Even though companies are returning to work, we are still offering virtual consultation visits! How do virtual visits work? Just complete an application, send it to our office and one of our consultants will setup a virtual visit. Employers can use live video conferencing or send photos to our consultants and we will provide recommendations to correct for your specific safety and health issue.

In addition to conducting virtual visits, we can provide on-site safety and health consultations on a variety of different topics. They include:

  • COVID-19 Assistance – We understand both employees and employers are apprehensive about returning to work under these new and challenging circumstances that continue to evolve. We can provide recommendations on COVID-19 using the latest OSHA/CDC guidance that includes, but not limited to, risk assessments, social distancing, and engineering controls to adjust workstations. We believe implementing these measures will not only help decrease employee and customer exposure to COVID-19, but will also aid in easing apprehension related to returning to work.
  • Hazard Assistance – Have all the hazards at my facility been identified?  Is the abatement for these hazards adequate? We can perform a walk through and help you identify hazards you may have missed and ensure adequate abatement is in place.
  • OSHA 300 logs questions - Have you submitted your OSHA 300 log information to OSHA this year?  We can assist you with possible errors and assist in determining if a case is recordable.
  • Review of OSHA site-specific written programs – Do you have an Emergency Action Plan in place? Lockout/Tagout Program? Respiratory Program? These types of programs may be required by OSHA. Send your documents to our consultants and we will check for compliance and help you create a well-rounded program.
  • Safety and Health Management System (SHMS) - SHMSs have been proven to make a dramatic impact on decreasing injuries and illnesses.  OSHA estimates that developing a SHMS in Missouri can save employers $26 million dollars annually! Let our consultants assist you in the development of a SHMS.
  • FREE Air and Noise Sampling – Ever wonder if the noise in my workplace too loud? Are my employees being overexposed to the air contaminants? We can provide air and noise sampling at your facility at no cost.

If we can be of any assistance, please contact us at 573-522-SAFE or at SafetyConsultation@labor.mo.gov.
