SHARING OUR ENVIRONMENT

Diving in to new discoveries

Bowen's Horseshoe Bay is the newest location for an art experience with the installation of 'Bwya', part of Reef Ecologic's 'Whitsundays Reef Recovery and Public Art Project."
The 3M high stainless steel installation celebrates the dreamtime story of the reef, creation and marine life of the region. Created by renowned artist Brian Robinson, the sculpture is a fitting addition to the underwater attractions at Horseshoe Bay. The intertidal piece has become a hit with visitors to the bay and joins five other sculptures installed around the Whitsundays.
The project was made possible due to funding from the Australian and Queensland Governments as part of the funding package set up to help the tourism industry bounce back from TC Debbie.

A once a year experience

For years the Bowen community have enjoyed the experience of ‘walking to the lighthouse’ on the lowest tides during winter. Discovering giant starfish and exploring North Head Island and the lighthouse makes for an amazing experience, so it’s no surprise that we are seeing more and more interest from visitors each year.
This year BTB are hosting a relaxed event in conjunction with the walk, with live entertainment, food and bar, along with educational opportunities being planned for the afternoon. We're looking forward to sharing a toast to the wonderful Whitsundays ‘winter’ sunset with all our visitors, and celebrating our marine heritage and natural wonders. Thanks to generous support from Whitsunday Regional Council for ensuring this year's event is a true once in a lifetime experience!

Leave no Footprints

Bowen Tourism & Business are proud to partner with the Bowen Burdekin LMAC to develop and deliver the ‘Leave no Footprints’ Reef Education Program. The program delivers marine environment education initiatives via collaboration with Reef Guardian schools, engaging with the community at public events, interpretive signage at Dalrymple Point (site of the walk to the lighthouse) and informative brochures.
This year the 'Walk to the Lighthouse' Event will feature a reef education theme, with volunteers and marine experts providing on-site information about reef health and responsible interaction.
The program is funded by the partnership between the Australian Government’s Reef Trust and the Great Barrier Reef Foundation.
