End of the year!

Hi everybody,

And so another year comes to an end. Many of us are looking back at an eventful year. For us at colorFabb it has been a spectacular year with a lot of great new products (four in total) that have been released! Let’s sit back, have a coffee and see what 2015 brought us…
The year started with the launch of not one, but two new products: XT-CF20 and brassFill. BrassFill has proven to be a challenging filament, but also one that rewards the user the most. With post processing the results have been astonishing and we have received a lot of feedback from you, our users, on post-processing techniques.

With the XT-CF20 we brought our first special based on colorFabb_XT to the market. Added carbon fibres did the trick to make, for instance, a remote controlled car. Tested and tried extensively by ourselves, the XT-CF20 has been a best-selling hit ever since it hit the market.

In the meantime, production lines 5 and 6 were installed in the spring of this year, expanding our capacity and drastically reducing lead times for both our webshop customers and our resellers. Why don’t you have another look in our company to see how we make, test and ship our filaments?
In April we joined the regional innovation platform LimburgMakers at the Hannover Messe, one of the largest trade shows in the world. The Stacker 3D printer made its European debut there and we even got a visit from the Dutch minister of Economic Affairs.

Not long after, Stephan Schürmann, our intern, presented his 3D printed bike. Key parts were made with XT-CF20 and the bike is functional! More info can be found here. Stephan now works for us and is hard at work at a new version of the bike, to be revealed in 2016.
When summer started and everybody geared up for their well-earned vacations, we started testing new materials to be released in the fall. Also, we launched our new full color packaging!
During the summer we also came across quite a few challenging and fantastic print projects, made with colorFabb materials. We see a lot of prints coming by on social media and love them all, but we want to highlight a few that really blew our minds.

First up was the Toyota engine, printed by Korneel Bullens with colorFabb_XT. And it works! We kept it plugged in during the TCT show this year and it kept running flawlessly, once again showcasing the strength of the colorFabb_XT material. Another part we really liked was the Modushelter by Antoine Proust, once again printed with colorFabb_XT.

You can read all about it here

Our Latvian friends of Mass Portal accomplished a real eye catcher. Printed on their Pharaoh ED, they re-created the Iron Man helmet with bronzeFill and copperFill – a stunning piece of art.
As always, Steve Cox kept surprising us with the prints he made. He uses our special filaments regularly and he shared with us a bronzeFill print he made for Paul Windle Design.
And last but not least there was of course the Storm Trooper suit by Barnacules. He extensively blogged about the project on YouTube and printed full suit with colorFabb_XT. Designed by Lloyd Roberts, it has taken Barnacules quite some time to print the entire suit, but the result is fantastic. You can find all further information and the videos in our previous news letter.
Here inside our own print lab we worked hard on the U-Boat print that was showcased at the TCT Show this year. Entirely made on an entry-level DIY printer, in this case the ever reliable Prusa i3 Hephestos, it has been a project of our colleague Jos Deelen, who put in quite a few hours into this project.

Of course there have been many more printing projects that have surprised us, but cannot include here unfortunately.

In September we took a big step and colorFabb was turned into a company. Previously, colorFabb had been the brand of Helian Polymers, but we decided to let colorFabb stand on its own feet. A great moment that makes colorFabb ready for the exciting future that lies ahead.

Another highlight in the past few months was our attendance at the TCT Show in Birmingham. We were there together with Stacker 3D and were overwhelmed with all the people visiting us. As always, the TCT Show is a great show to attend and this year was no exception.
During the TCT we also announced our partnership with Cel-Robox by bringing our colorFabb_XT filaments to their range of products. The combination of colorFabb_XT and the Robox 3D printer has proven to be a perfect match.
If that wasn’t enough we also launched our new corkFill during the TCT show. CorkFill has proven to be a worthy addition to our natural filled filaments, right next to our woodFill and bambooFill
And then there was nGen. Launched on November 25th we have taken a lot of time to test this brand new material. nGen is produced with Amphora™ AM3300 polymer by Eastman Chemical Company and uses specific colorFabb developed color concentrates for good opaque quality and highest possible brightness. All information can be found on our dedicated landing page: http://ngen.colorfabb.com/

After a succesfull launch of colorFabb_XT during the London 3D Print Show in 2014, nGen has been added as the second member in Eastman’s Amphora family of 3D printing materials. For 2016, more exciting developments are planned to expand the Amphora family.

Right before Thanksgiving we entered another partnership: with Aleph Objects, producer of the highly succesfull Lulzbot printers, we are bringing the special filaments woodFill, corkFill, bronzeFill and corkFill directly to their customers. These special filaments can be purchased directly from the Lulzbot webshop and readily available.

But that’s not where we will stop. During the CES in Las Vegas (January 6 – 9) we will be at their booth (Sands, Halls A-C - 72117) printing with our nGen materials! If you are there, don’t forget to drop by and see nGen in action on the Lulzbot printers. Free samples available there!

So, that was a short recap of 2015. We are looking back at a great year. We thank you all for making this year very special for us. Keep sharing your prints, your thoughts and your experiences with us!

For 2016, we have quite a few exciting developments lined up. Stay tuned for news which we will of course share with you through this newsletter and our Twitter and Facebook feeds.

We want to thank you for all the great efforts you made as our reseller during the past year and making this a fantastic colorFabb year. Here’s to 2016!

We will remain open during the holidays and ship daily (with the exception of Christmas Day and New Year’s Day).

Have a great holiday season everybody!
