Wrapping up 2014 and preparing for 2015
The year started with a bold and uncompromising decision to move the entire company to a new location, just so that colorFabb could grow. Two more production lines would create more capacity to meet with an ever increasing demand. Our new location is a huge step-up from the ‘garage sized box’ it all started in, but we’ll always remember how it all started, small and humble.
Growth of the company meant finding new members to strengthen our colorFabb crew. In one year we’ve hired really talented and passionate folks in our production department, logistics department, IT department and our printlab. A bigger team meant we could finaly focus our attention on improving and developing existing areas of colorFabb. Launching our new webshop in March was one of the key improvements of 2014. Although we’re growing at a relentless pace our promise remains the same: producing the best possible 3D printing filament.
This year a lot of collaborations were announced that were vital to our growth.
Working together with Eastman Chemical Company on new 3D printing materials has been great! We’re very proud of our joint development, Amphora 3D polymer which we use to manufacture our colorFabb XT filament product line, and from now is available for distribution as pellets aswell, to facilitate other filament manufacturers. The expertise and knowledge of the steering team within Eastman is impressive and we had a great time visiting Kingsport Tennessee and attending the London 3D Printshow together. Special thanks to the entire Eastman team who made this all happen.
During the summer we started planning a collaboration with 3D Hubs based on our mutual strengths and common grounds. As big supporters of 3D Hubs we’re excited to provide the power users of 3DHubs continuous discount on our filament throughout the year. Sharing a big booth at the TCT show with 3D Hubs was great, synergy was definitely in the air!
A highlight of our year was the market introduction of bronzeFill shortly followed by copperFill. The overwhelming response from the community took us by surprise and ever since we’ve been working around the clock to produce as much stock as possible. The community showed us amazing examples of 3D prints and shared great tips on how to post process these parts.
Next year we’ll start with a new exciting material which will fit perfectly alongside bronzeFill and copperFill. This time we’re bringing the best possible metallic shine to desktop 3D printing with our brand new development brassFill. For the early adopters and true makers, a pre-order period will start early January and much more information and pictures of brassFill.
Pre-order brassFill scheduled to start end of january 2015.
