PROPANE TANKS & OTHER CYLINDERS: Approximately 3000 propane fires and explosions are reported yearly. The Transfer Station does not collect propane tanks because they are pressurized and may explode when compressed.
Before you dispose of your tank consider;
- Use the gas completely, and the label has to be visible.
- Contact and bring a tank to your propane supplier for recycling
- Bring an empty depressurized used tank to a scrap metal facility for recycling.
- Bring it to a local Hazardous Waste Collection Day event for free.

NOTICE OF ABATEMENT BUILDING DEMOLITION: The SRMT Environment Division Brownfields Project and its licensed contractors will be demolishing and removing three abandoned homes over several weeks beginning November 7th. These buildings were deemed unsafe to enter for asbestos testing. In an abundance of caution, the buildings will be removed as if they contain asbestos.
The structures are located on State Route 37 east, State Route 37 west and Cook Road. The sites under demolition will be clearly marked with signs and appropriate measures will be taken to ensure the safety of surrounding homes and businesses.
If you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to Aimee Benedict by email: aimee.benedict@srmt-nsn.gov or call (518) 358-5937. This project is funded by the USEPA, Bureau of Indian Affairs and the Tribal General Fund.
