Christmas Gift Giving

Santa at Christmas Breakfast

Every year Santa gives gifts to all the children who attend Christmas Breakfast at MNC with their families. It's always such a lovely time of giving and receiving.

We are calling out for gifts suitable for children and youth. If you would like to donate a gift this year we would love you to drop it at the front desk.

This year is a "NO WRAPPING" affair where we'll be putting the gift in a Christmas bag instead. This makes it so much easier for Santa's helpers to see what they are giving, and to make sure that each child receives an appropriate gift.

So you don't have to wrap!

One last thing. We're mindful of filling our landfills with indestructible plastics. Would you consider keeping that in mind as well? Thank you.

Spare Rooms Group

Do you have spare room in your home?
Would a little income make a big difference to your lifestyle?
Or would you like help around the home?
Or perhaps  someone around in case you have a fall?
Do you have a neighbour or relative who might say yes to one of these?

There may be many people in Maleny who would answer yes to one or more of these questions, but are wary about sharing. We are the group to help!

The spare rooms group meets monthly on the second Tuesday at the Market Place Cafe at 1pm.

We are essentially a group of people with spare rooms in our homes (and mentors) who are supporting each other to provide affordable housing solutions and hosting people in our homes or spaces.

If you have spare room, or are curious about what is involved in renting out part of your property but are unsure how to go about it, please come along to our monthly get-togethers.

We can chat about drafting agreements, housesitting terms and payment and/or exchange arrangements.

Call Frances Harper for more information: Ph: 5494 3420

MNC is seeking volunteers who would like to give us some time either in the mornings or afternoons in the following areas.

The hours that would work well are 9.00 am until 12 pm, and 12 pm to 3.00 pm.  One or more days per week, just as much as you feel you can give, will be appreciated.

The areas where we currently need support include:
  • Front Desk reception
  • Admin work
  • Buildings and Grounds
  • Gardening
  • Fund-Raising
  • Events
Any help you can give us would be very much appreciated. Contact Alison.

Your Local Native Nursery

For quality services, products and advice we are your one stop shop for local native plants, bush foods, timber trees, native gardens, tools and equipment for Revegetation and Bush Regeneration, nest boxes, books, DVDs and art.

"We live in a biodiversity hotspot", says Spencer. "There are some 3500 plants local to the region and we're encouraging home gardeners to plant them as an alternative to the usual garden plants that become weeds in our local forests."

At this time of starting up business here in Maleny, Spencer has moved his office to be on-site in Coral Street. Take the opportunity to go along and chat. You'll get the benefit of his long history working with regeneration and the biodiversity of our local region.

Caloundra & Hinterland Family Support Programme

Sometimes families struggle with problems like financial pressures, difficulties coping with children, feeling isolated, lonely & stressed. Often parents just need someone to talk to.

Family Support is an early intervention programme that aims to improved children's development and wellbeing by supporting the capacity of those in a parenting role. Specifically working with children up to the age of 12 years, Family Support seeks to:
  • strengthen family relationships
  • support families
  • improve children's wellbeing
  • increase participation in community life to strengthen family and community functioning
If you think that you or your family, may benefit from this type of support, give Wendy a call on Mob: 0423 716 705 or Holly on 0488 000 343.

Wendy is at the MNC on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.
Time: 7.30 am - 12.00 midday.

Emergency Relief Story

I am a young man who recently moved to the Maleny area. I didn’t know anybody here and had no anchor in town. Someone recommended that I check out the Neighbourhood Centre. It took me a while to get work so in the interim I was able to get a few supplies from the Centre to tide me over. More importantly though I found the Centre to be a very grounded and “heart-centred” place that really helped me during this transition period in my life.

I am settled in now and have a job and friends but I will always be thankful for the kind people at the Neighbourhood Centre; it is definitely a wonderful place that is there when you need it. I believe it is a crucial place for Maleny.
