October 2017
Hello <<First Name>>,
We are pleased to advise that Billy's popular Ayurvedic Kitchen will be resuming every second Friday, starting this month. If you haven't been before, we can highly recommend it!
Congratulations to our President Barry Smith for a well deserved award courtesy of the Maleny Rotary Club. The Paul Harris Fellow award is Rotary’s way of expressing its appreciation for a substantial contribution to its humanitarian and educational programs. Well done Barry!

A memorial that
keeps on giving
What better memorial could you have for Bill Richardson, who died recently, than to kick-start a project that is about the safety and security of women in the community. Rob and Sam Outridge of Maleny IGA have donated $2,500 towards a proposed community initiative to be coordinated by the Neighbourhood Centre. Through this initiative the MNC aims to establish a share house that can be used to provide temporary accommodation for women and children whilst more stable accommodation is sought for them.

Thanks to our Credit Union

MNC has benefited again this month through the MCU Clubs Rewards program. MNC has received a total of $800 from MCU in the last few months.  These funds are going towards our Emergency Relief program.

Community recognition for Barry

Barry Smith, current President of the MNC Management Committee, was recently elected Paul Harris Fellow by the Maleny Rotary Club. The award recognises Barry's great commitment and numerous contributions. He has been involved with his local community for a number of years through his involvement with the Neighbourhood Centre and the art community locally.
Barry is a well renowned sculptural artist and metal worker who has lived in Maleny for many years. Staff, management committee and volunteers would like to thank Barry for his continued work and support of MNC and congratulate him on this prestigious award.

One of the Centre's main functions is to support community members who find themselves in a crisis situation. Each month we would like to share one of their stories:

"A great sense of community"

I am a middle aged lady with chronic fatigue syndrome whose only source of income is a widow’s pension.  I have utilised the emergency relief service at MNC in the past to help with groceries. This was particularly helpful to me recently when my son, who is mentally ill, was living with me. I have had no training to deal with someone with his illness, so to help in this regard, I have signed up for some counselling sessions at the MNC.
I really enjoy the weekly community lunches – these are one of my few weekly social outings and provide a good meal. The gathering gives me a sense of community and I have made many friends at the centre.

Our sincere thanks to all those community groups and individuals who have donated to our Emergency Relief Fund since the  last newsletter. These included Maleny Super IGA, Maleny Garden Club and Share the Dignity. These donations help us to achieve our fundraising aim of $12,000 for Emergency Relief...
