Over the last 5 years the Neighbourhood Centre has hosted a number of community conversations about housing and homelessness in and around Maleny, which have lead to the establishment of a number of initiatives including CHASM and Smart Living Society.
These discussions and subsequent research have highlighted the plight of women and women with children who are suffering housing stress. MNC has worked with a number of individuals, churches and organisations to place some of these women and children into transition accommodation and to work with other housing providers to secure ongoing appropriate housing but... Maleny Wellbeing Group – seeking members

Next meeting, Wednesday 11 July, 10am
The Maleny Wellbeing Group began in 2016 following a research project which looked at ways of reducing the risk of suicide, as well as build resilient communities. The group meets on the second Wednesday of the month and is always looking for more members. The group’s aim is to identify ways to assist the local Hinterland community in suicide prevention and building resilient communities.

Born in a Welsh mining village, Ray James joined the Royal Navy as a youngster. He has travelled the world over to approximately 46 countries for both pleasure and work. Ray and his wife moved to Maleny in 2016 and he has been a volunteer for most of that time, including serving as a MNC Committee member. He enjoys reading and touring the countryside.

Catering for your next event
The Neighbourhood Centre offers catered dinners or breakfasts for community organisations and service clubs, which also helps provide fundraising for much needed services at MNC. Maleny Floral Art classes
9am, second Thursday of each month, with Meryl
Learn how to turn the flowers in your garden into pretty arrangements for your living room. Meryl will demonstrate how easy this is to do! In preparation for each workshop, Meryl creates an arrangement and she photographs each stage of the process. Prior to the next workshop, she emails the participants this information.

MNC current projects update
The Share House Project has been busy seeking financial donations to start the project. Policy framework is finalised and the next meeting will look towards establishing a premises.
The Maleny Innovative Housing Project is commencing Stage 3, which will look at financial aspects of ageing in place or retrofitting your home, including costs and impact on factors such as Centrelink and Aged Pension.

Suicide prevention workshop
Saturday 4 August, 10am, Mapleton Community Hall
A 3 hour training workshop to increase suicide alertness, available to anyone above 17 years of age. Participants need to book beforehand – phone 5499 9345 or email the MNC coordinator. Cost: $15 to be paid on the day.
