Hey <<First Name>>,
It's Noah Kleiman from Secret Knowledge. Thanks for staying connected with Secret Knowledge in 2017. It's been a really challenging and exciting year on every front with so many changes in the wind, changes which directly impact the artists, musicians, and creative people Secret Knowledge serves.
Thanks to everyone who engages with us and the folks who have turned out for our Secret Knowledge Exchange Happy Hour Events. You've been helping to keep the spirit of Secret Knowledge alive this year.
I'm excited to share some bits of good news that portend a very big year for Secret Knowledge in 2018.
The next Secret Knowledge Conference will be Saturday November 17th, 2018 at The Jupiter Hotel.
Mark your calendars. This is going to be the biggest, brightest Secret Knowledge Conference we've ever offered. We've already confirmed a keynote speaker for 2018.
Portland City Commissioner Chloe Eudaly will deliver the keynote address at the 2018 Secret Knowledge Conference
Chloe was a featured presenter at the 2015 conference where she joined myself and musician Anna Fritz on a panel discussion about crowdfunding for artistic projects. We're excited to welcome back one of our own. I've asked her to talk about ways artists and musicians can get involved in shaping the city and what we can ask the City of Portland to do to support working artists and musicians.
Our Team is Growing
Secret Knowledge is pleased to welcome two of our most engaged volunteers Annie Rose Shapero & Ethan Parker Wright to the Secret Knowledge Board of Directors. Annie Rose has been instrumental in developing our Secret Knowledge exchange programming at the conference and happy hour events. Ethan was a participant in the first Whisper Posse cohort, coordinated our happy hour events in 2017 and will lend his graphic design skills to Secret Knowledge in 2018.
Welcome aboard Annie Rose and Ethan!
We need talented people, like you.
We are continuing to recruit volunteer board members in 2018. If you're jazzed about helping us make Secret Knowledge happen and are interested in exploring board service, drop me a note.
2018 is already poised to be our biggest year.
We enter 2018 with the grant support of two key arts funders, Oregon Arts Commission (OAC) and Regional Arts & Culture Council (RACC). In 2017 RACC announced a new arts funding category for professional workshops and conferences. The 2018 Secret Knowledge Conference was one of the first two projects to receive grant funding under the new grant program. At the same time Oregon Arts Commission has renewed their support of Secret Knowledge in 2018.
Creative people need Secret Knowledge now more than ever before.
It's the most important thing I learned in 2017. Creative people need support to keep doing what they do in the face of social upheaval and increasingly challenging economic disadvantages.
Moving forward Secret Knowledge will be more than just a great source of creative business education.
No one is in it alone. Now more than ever we need support and guidance from each other. That's what Secret Knowledge is.
We've stepped into our calling, as a reliable source of community support; the place creative people turn to for a healthy dose of "keep on keeping on."
As we finish out 2017, please consider making an end of year donation to Secret Knowledge.
There is still time to make a tax deductible donation in 2017.
You can donate online right now, or mail a check postmarked in 2017 to:
