Emmaus Cambridge has recently started a new project to complement their existing not-for-profit social enterprise at their Landbeach community.

"We have taken over the former charity Reboot Cambridge and working with their staff we have set up Emmaus Reboot.

We are now looking to local companies and the general public to support our charity by donating your unwanted IT hardware, we will then recycle and re-sell refurbished computers through the social enterprise.

We are looking for donations of Laptops, PC’s, tablets and flat-screen monitors.

All hard drives will be wiped in line with the European General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR), and the UK Data Protection Act 1998 (DPA) and a certificate can be provided upon request.

Our team of computer refurbishing experts will strip down computers, monitors, laptops and other IT equipment and carefully re-build them into fully working equipment, which will be sold at an affordable price.

We can collect free of charge within 5 working days of a request being received.

Please contact or call 01223 863 657.

All funds raised will help us continue to support the formerly homeless people who live and work with us to rebuild their lives."

Warnings are being circulated about text messages on mobile phones, saying they have been in close contact with a person with the Omicron variant of Covid. The message goes on to give them a link to the NHS website where they can access a free test with just 99p postage to pay online.

One person reported on social media: “
As I had been amongst various people the day before, I fell for it! A confirmation email did not materialise within 10 minutes, then I checked the proper NHS website and was horrified to read of a scam circulating stating just this and the postage required.

“I rang the fraud line to my bank and a stop was put on my card immediately. Of course I am now fully aware that the NHS would never ask for bank or card details ever.”  More details here

Dame Vera Baird calls for victims to share their views of the criminal justice system.

The Victims’ Commissioner, Dame Vera Bird has launched her new survey of victims’ experiences of the criminal justice system.  The survey seeks to learn about victims’ experiences of the criminal justice system over the past three years.

The survey asks questions related to how victims were treated by criminal justice agencies, whether they were kept informed, and what about the experience was good and what was bad. It covers the period from the initial incident, through the police investigation to any subsequent court hearing.

The responses will give an insight into the real experiences of victims of crime and help to inform the priorities of the Victims’ Commissioner in championing victims’ rights and perspectives.  More details and link to the survey here
