Cambridge City Council 2023-24 Area Committee grants (Closing date for Cherry Hinton 1st February, 2023).

Area Committee grants focus on activities which reduce social and / or economic inequality.  More information here.  

Cherry Hinton Phoenix Tuesday Club - for older men and women  
"The Club has now restarted for this term and meets on Tuesdays until 28th March.   Meetings at St Andrew's Centre (next to the church on the Coldhams Lane-High Street corner) at 2.15pm for 2.30pm until about 3.45pm. We have tea and biscuits, then a varied programme of talks, activities, quizzes, discussions and other entertainment! We’re not a church group but by consensus we do something to mark Easter and Christmas each year. "Imbolc 
is the Old Irish name for a celtic/ pagan festival on and around 1st February, marking the turning point between winter and spring, when days are more obviously lighter, and when nature is quietly nurturing the seeds of new growth, though this may not yet be obvious to the human naked eye. This CBC Lantern Walk is an invitation to all to connect with the turning of the season, as well as connect with our own internal seasons of emotions, beliefs, hopes and wishes, with a view to taking some quiet reflection time among the raw beauty of nature, led by two mindfulness teachers and soul practitioners, John Nicholson and David Lynch."  More information here

Available at the Abbey Leisure complex this February half-term.
Swimming crash course, specifically for children with autism.  These classes will be taught in small groups at quieter pool times and with extra teacher provision.  Abbey Swimming complex  Monday 13th-Fri 17th Feb  11.30am-12noon £42.50  Places are filling fast! Are you a parent or carer and would you like to understand more about county lines drug dealing?

Two free online workshops will be held next Wednesday (1 February) between 7pm and 8.30pm, and another on 8 February.  The webinars will help you learn what county lines and child criminal exploitation is, understand the signs that your child might be at risk or involved, learn how offenders groom and exploit children and understand what is happening in your area.  More information here

Power Walks at Cambridge Museums Sat 4th February 10am
"Discover complex, intriguing and challenging stories about power within our collections.  Join us for The Power Walk series - an opportunity to share and exchange stories and ideas linked to the University of Cambridge Museum's investigation of the legacies of empire and enslavement, power and memory with our communities and audiences.  In this Power Walk we'll be exploring Kettle's Yard and the Museum of Cambridge. We will be making space during the walks to hear comments and questions from participants, and will be providing tea and coffee at the end."  More information here

NAAFI Break takes place on the first Wednesday of each month at Anglesey Abbey Café. It's an opportunity for veterans to meet other like-minded veterans, have a chin wag, and feel connected within their local community.

Join Park-O orienteering with West Anglian Orienteering Club
On Saturday 4th February, you can join Park-O orienteering on Coldham's Common. From 1pm to 3pm, there will be three brand new courses designed for families, children of any age and new-to-the-sport adults.  Coldham's Common is a great place to explore, brimming with natural diversity while also offering fun play areas too.  Entries cost £3 for a child, £5 for family groups and £5 for adults.

Following on success from Cows about Cambridge, the city is set to be filled with animals once again. But this time, it's not cows but some very tall and long-necked friends.

In spring next year a herd of giraffes will be released onto the streets of Cambridge. Following on from the success of the Cows about Cambridge trail in 2021, Cambridge Standing Tall will see around forty giraffe sculptures, each designed by an artist and sponsored by a business, take to the streets of Cambridge for ten weeks in March 2024 - giving trail-goers an exciting new perspective of the city.  More information here

Duxford Brick Festival
"This will be a great day for families, collectors, adult builders and every other kind of LEGO fan. With lots to see and do including speed building competitions, large scale displays, activities, traders selling loose bricks, new LEGO sets, retired LEGO sets, minifigures & accessories plus a dedicated building area.  This event celebrates all things LEGO and will take place on Sunday19th March 2023, with opening hours 10am - 5pm.  More information here  

Student Portfolio Day
An opportunity to work with experienced printmaking tutors in a professional studio. Focussing on developing and boosting coursework for GCSE, A-Level and International Baccalaureate as well as portfolio preparation for an application to a Foundation or a Degree course. Techniques taught on this course include Drypoint (image approx. A5) and Lino (image approx. 150 x 150 mm) and you will take home at least five prints each of Lino and Drypoint.  More information here
The next CCVS online coffee morning will be on the 8th February at 10.30. There will be a presentation from the volunteer coordinator at CambridgeOnline, and they will talk about their offer and opportunities to get involved as volunteers!  More information and booking here
