INVITATION
How can we build bridges between Palestinians and Canadians?

Robert Massoud is a Palestinian Canadian who founded Zatoun which distributes olive oil and za'atar to build bridges across our cultures. Sponsored by our Men's Club, he is our guest speaker on Saturday, February 29th at Winfield United Church at 9am. We start with Coffee and muffins followed by guest speaker and ending no later that 10:30 AM. We want to participate in a conversation on colonization and reconciliation through the lens of a Palestinian Canadian. Plenty of time will be carved out for dialogue with our guest.
Come together with others from local United Churches to be training in Mental Health First Aid.

Fri/Sat March 13/14 here at Winfield United Church

MENTAL HEALTH FIRST AID
You will be trained in the recognized Mental Health First Aid course of the Mental Health Commission of Canada, by Dr Julie Clayton and Michael Collins of Tipping Point Counselling Services — and with the added bonus of taking the program with other people of faith.

The opportunity to connect mental health first aid learning to our experience in Christian community is profound. While medical first aid has long been understood as a necessary response to an injured person, mental health first aid is a critical life skill that everyone should acquire. Over the course of anyone’s life, it is highly likely that they will develop a mental health problem themselves, or have close contact with someone who does.

LETTER FROM JULIE ELLIOT

Dear Council,
As I began this email to Council, I chose the subject line “leaving with love” and I hope you know that’s my deepest feeling in this decision that has been made over many months.

I appreciated being part of the discussion on February 19th to review Eat, Play, Love Sundays. It’s good that there’s an open dialogue between the spiritual nurture team, worship team, M&P team, council and Joan. I have every hope that a plan will evolve that will meet the spiritual needs of most of the congregation. I also know it’s a big commitment being made by everyone to stay with this good work - and I’m not able to make that commitment anymore.

Over the last several years, my time and energy has gone in new directions that are life-giving and important to me. The time has come to be clear with my family at Winfield United Church that I’ve moved on in a new direction.

Thank you for nurturing my Spirit for the past 25 years. I have loved being part of Winfield United Church and I will continue to hold you all in my prayers.

With gratitude and wishing you every blessing,

Julie Elliot
