WINFIELD UNITED CHURCH

NEWS & UPDATES

Hi everyone,

After more than three months of being shuttered, the Thrift Store will reopen next Thursday, July 2. This decision was not made lightly and a reopening plan was carefully created, taking into account the safety of volunteers and the public. New practices and protocols have been put into place and will see the store open to a very different shopping experience. It is hard to know when the right time to do things is, but public health advice was heeded and the church has given its support to the reopening... so we take a step forward. I hope we will all keep the Thrift Store volunteers, and the community it serves, in our thoughts and prayers over the coming weeks as we begin to live into this new reality.

Summer is certainly making her presence known and we begin to think of other things. I will be on holidays from July 20 - August 3. Verena will take  her vacation from June 29 - July 13. Thanks for Margaret for filling in while Verena is gone.
After a busy few months of adjusting to new responsibilities related to COVID, we have decided to take a brief hiatus from the Friday newsletter for the month of July and will return August 7. You will still receive the Sunday email containing the Zoom link for the service as well as the Circle of Peace reminder email with Zoom link. Thank you for your understanding.  As a congregation, we have pulled together these past months as best as we know how and have extended our care and concern to one another. I feel some satisfaction with how we've been connecting with one another and our attempt to create a gathering space on Sunday mornings. We will likely see online services continue into the fall. Until we meet next in this space...

Peace to you all,
Joan

For our Sunday virtual gatherings, you are invited to light a candle and hold it up when I light the candle at the beginning of our service.

LAST WEEK

If you missed last Sunday's service, I recommend watching this video as it features a very interesting interview with our refugee families.

There is no reflection to read this week. Instead of a reflection Joan interviewed several refugee families as well as Bev Edwards-Sawatzky from the Central Okanagan Refugee Committee (CORC).

Thank you for your continued support of Winfield United and the United Church's Mission and Service Fund during this unprecedented time of pandemic. Our building may be closed but we strive to keep our Church "open", with our online gatherings and keeping in touch with one another through phone calls and physically distant visits. Your gifts animate our mission. Offerings can be sent to the church office by mail or e-transfer.
