Hi everyone,
It's Friday again, another week has come and gone and we are into October already. This Sunday we will observe Worldwide Communion Sunday, a day set aside each October to remind us of our ecumenical connections around the globe and the sense of sharing in a meal together. Those attending the in-person service will have elements provided as per usual and folks at home on Zoom are invited to bring their own bread or cracker and juice. I look forward to sharing this meal with you all in both real and virtual space. We will also have our first Blessing of the Animals this Sunday and thanks for all the pet pictures we received. Looking forward to seeing the powerpoint video that Verena is creating for us.
Our book study, Me and White Supremacy begins this Thursday evening at 7 pm and we will be setting our group's intentions as well as looking at the first week of readings and reflection questions. Also, I hope you will consider signing up for Guess Who's Coming to Dinner, a virtual dinner party and a chance to connect with friends and maybe folks you don't always get the chance to talk with over a meal from the safety of our own homes.
If you would like help with setting up Zoom and having a tutorial on how to access our online events, please consider bringing your device to the service on Sunday or stop by during the week. Verena and I will be happy to assist :)
Peace to you all and see you Sunday!

A thank you from the Mission & Service Fund

We are grateful to the people of Winfield United Church who have generously given $14, 246.00 in 2019 to enable life-saving and life-changing work through our shared Mission & Service. M&S takes on new importance as the church responds to the worldwide COVID-19 crisis.  In-person outreach programs closed by social distancing have been replaced by food distribution and finding safe homes for people who are homeless.  Hospital chaplaincy, virtual camps and education programs are just some of the ways the United Church is responding to the pandemic. Your gifts to Mission & Service makes all this possible.

Thank you!

Guess Who's Coming to Dinner?

DATE: Saturday, October 17, 2020
TIME: 6 - 7:30 pm
LOCATION:  Your House!
Come to our virtual Dinner Party! Dress up, set your table, light some candles, cook something special or whatever that looks like for you and join some friends for some conversation over a meal. Just let us know at the office that you wish to participate and you will receive the Zoom link. Or register on our website. You never know who will be coming to dinner!

Book Study

Our upcoming Book Study, Me and White Supremacy by Layla F. Saad begins Thursday, October 8 at 7 pm on Zoom. To register for the Zoom link, please drop the church office a note or register on the website. I failed to mention in the announcement last week that you are responsible for getting your own copy. Mosaic Books, Kelowna Indigo, Amazon, the Public Library, Libby (online library app) are possible options. We did not do a group order because of the range of choices between hard copy and online preferences. This book is organized into a four-week study examining white privilege and our attitudes and actions towards people of color. I encourage you to come prepared to share your thoughts and reflections around the week's readings as this will create a rich experience of learning for all who participate.
