News from Winfield United Church

Some words of thanks from Joan to all of you

I would like to thank Winfield UC for the cards, flowers, and words of support following the death of my father. I also wish to thank Bob Thompson for leading the Sunday service in my absence. The kindness and support extended to me at this sad time will not soon be forgotten.

Peace be with you all,

"Think different"

Come join us this Sunday, February 2 at 9:50 am. The theme of the reflection will be about thinking different, and about what it means to be "blessed". We will celebrate Communion as well.
Scripture reader is Gary Munro.
The music will be provided by Sharon Hartwick on piano, Mike Schwartzentruber on guitar, and Jim Taylor on djembe drum. Thank you!

Please stay and have coffee or tea with us following the service. Karen Stead will be doing coffee service this morning. Thank you!

See you on Sunday!
Last Sunday was our Eat Play Love Sunday. Through songs, table discussions, and fun activities, we explored the theme of "Mentoring". We had a few people share their knowledge and skills:
  • Fenin showed how to solve a rubix cube.
  • Verena demonstrated how to make a home-made natural all-purpose cleaner and hand-soap.
  • Michelle taught a phrase in sign-language.
  • Hanna gave instructions on how to finger knit.
  • Bev Gordon taught words in different languages
  • Tom Cockrell share his knowledge on how to explore one's family history.
  • Marg showed how to bake and "braid" greek cookies.
  • Spiro offered guidance on how to draw animals.
  • Joan shared her background
But it was during our table discussions when everyone felt a deep connection to one another as we shared personal thoughts triggered by provided random questions.
And the food was amazing!

How can we build bridges between Palestinians and Canadians?

Robert Massoud is a Palestinian Canadian who founded Zatoun which distributes olive oil and za'atar to build bridges across our cultures. Sponsored by our Men's Club, he is our guest speaker on Saturday, February 29th at Winfield United Church at 9am. We start with Coffee and muffins followed by guest speaker and ending no later that 10:30 AM. We want to participate in a conversation on colonization and reconciliation through the lens of a Palestinian Canadian. Plenty of time will be carved out for dialogue with our guest.
