You’re invited to our house!

Have you ever wondered what goes on at the Shelbourne Community Kitchen? Maybe you pass our little bungalow on Shelbourne Street, or have heard about us, and are curious about our programs and how far we’ve come since opening at our current location in March 2015. We invite you to drop in during our Open House on November 27th between 3:30 and 6:30pm. Have a casual tour of our facility and enjoy some light refreshments prepared by our members. Come, be our guest!

Thank you all for helping us with our Fall Supper!

It was an inspirational evening!

This year’s Fall Supper was an incredible event. Positive energy and warmth from the crowd filled the room, and laughter and lively conversation reached every corner of the church. Over 200 people enjoyed a full turkey dinner, prepared by many volunteers, all in support of the Kitchen. Harpist Melissa Dyck performed some beautiful music for us. Video and photo presentations, speeches, and a completely impromptu tragically hip sing-a-long also entertained us. Food justice champion Anim Steel’s quote surely rang true: “food brings people together in a way that few other activities can.”

We are grateful for all the incredible hardworking volunteers, our Partner Organizations, event sponsors Morguard Investments and Fairways, both at Shelbourne Plaza, and Tri-Eagle Developments, and to everyone who attended in support of the Shelbourne Community Kitchen. Thank you for an incredible night!

Supporting Growth at the Kitchen
The number and involvement of participants and volunteers in the Kitchen continues to grow, as does the positive impact of the Kitchen in the lives of many people. This growth stretches our resources and capacity. We have made remarkable progress carrying out our mission to help people increase their food security, but we need more funds to continue this important work.
Recent approval for a second Temporary Use Permit from Saanich Municipal Council has given us the stability needed to plan for the future at our current location.
In response to the growing need, the Kitchen has launched its first ever Fundraising Campaign, and our goal is to raise $80,000 towards current and future programming.
New funds will help increase our capacity to run the organization, as it has become much too large for one staff member. New funding will also help address waitlists for programs. Our Campaign will seek out new business partners, individual and corporate donors, and will engage with our surrounding communities and founding partners.
As a supporter of the Kitchen, you may receive a letter asking you to consider making a donation to our Fundraising Campaign. Thank you for your ongoing support. If you have any questions about the campaign, please contact Laura Cochrane at
Donations for our Pantry Program are always appreciated. Our top five most needed items are:
1. Canned meats
2. Rice
3. Pasta & sauce
4. Peanut butter
5. Toilet paper
