Welcome to the July edition of the Swim Ireland Newsletter. We were delighted over the past few weeks to see lots of our clubs back in the pool, while this may be limited at present with some pools not open yet and pools in Northern Ireland due to open on August 7th (see our letter to the NI Executive here asking to reconsider date), it is a move in the right direction and we are here to support you every step on the way.
We have lots to catch up on this month across all of our departments including 'Return to Water Updates', news from our AGM held on July 4th including the passing of a gender balance motion, details of our Women in Sport Coach Mentor Programme opening again and lots of opportunities to develop and up skill from our Education and Performance Departments. ____________________________________________________________________________________
IMPORTANT: COVID-19 Officer Training Update The Clubs and Community team have been working hard, delivering COVID-19 Officer Training to over 1,800 Swim Ireland members. The training is delivered by Pat Daly, Competitions Manager and Swim Ireland COVID-19 Officer, in a live webinar workshop. The presentation is approximately 30 minutes with an opportunity for Q&A at the end. Thanks to everyone who has attended to date!
We are endeavouring to support as many of our members and their parents/ carers to attend the training as possible, so have a few important reminders:
Everyone must book and attend in their own name and device. Check out our helpful registration guide which includes step by step instructions to create your own profile, register, attend an receive your certificate.
Within 3 days of attending your workshop you will receive a credential which you can present to your club.
All clubs are required to have a Lead COVID-19 Officer appointed and there must be a COVID-19 Officer on duty at each training session. We encourage you to support your club with their return to training by booking a place on our upcoming workshops.
Return to Water Training & CPD The Education Department are offering an extensive programme of Return to Water CPD and Training this month and next to ensure our Teachers, Coaches and Learn To Swim partners are confident, and prepared to get the nation back into the pool and learning to swim in these new and different times! Setting the stage for gender balance at Swim Ireland The 2020 Swim Ireland Annual General Meeting (AGM) took place on Saturday, July 4 - our first via Live Webinar - and we had over 100 voting delegates in attendance from clubs across the country.
The key motion passed by Swim Ireland members was that which will ensure gender balance of 60/40 on the company Board of Directors. You can read more about this move, and other news from the AGM by clicking here.

Women in Sport Coaching and Mentoring ProgrammeApplications have RE-OPENED! We have lots of Coaching courses still to come this summer, with WIS spaces available on each. The theory elements of courses will be completed online, with practical elements commencing once pool availability eases.

National Pool Lifeguard Qualification is Live! The Education department is offering the opportunity to attend the virtual classroom element of the most widely-recognised lifeguarding qualification in the UK and Ireland – the National Pool Lifeguard Qualification. We are also offering the chance to purchase a combined NPLQ and Level 1 Assistant Swimming Teacher qualification!
The first 12 candidates started their NPLQ online on the 7th of July with tutor Cheryl Pottinger. If you are interested in joining the next NPLQ pleaseclick here and search 'National Pool Lifeguard Qualification'
Online Continuing Professional Development Did you know that along with our various virtual CPDs, Swim Ireland also offers online CPD courses that are accessed via our eLearning platform (STEP)?
Following registration, you can work at your own pace to complete the CPD. All online CPDs are interactive and can be completed remotely with no requirement to attend any face-to-face training. For more information, please click here.

245 New Team Managers & Timekeepers!We are proud to announce that since the launch of our virtual classroom courses, we have 125 newly-qualified timekeepers and 120 newly qualified team managers!
It has been fantastic to see how many of you have taken part, getting ready for a return to travel and competition!
Our next Level 1 Team Manager course is on July 15 and our next Level 1 Officials course is on July 21
We also continue to run the Safeguarding Level 1 course for our members in the Republic of Ireland and will be adding further dates soon, along with further safeguarding courses for our members in Northern Ireland!

Club Children's Officer Forums Continue We have just run CCO Forum 5. This will be the sixth CCO Forum delivered during lockdown and all have been a valuable opportunity for all CCOs to keep up to date with safeguarding and youth-related news at Swim Ireland, as well as continuing to meet each other from around the country.
Three National Centres Returned to Water Great news tlast Monday as our athletes were able to return to training at the Bangor Aurora.
This means we now have swimmers and divers returned to water at the National Centres in Dublin, Limerick and Bangor. Read more about Larne swimmer Conor Ferguson's return here.
Our latest workout from Associate Head of Performance Services (Physical) Paul Talty was his most challenging yet! Again, this came from workouts he has been giving our elite athletes and it had a fun element to it, with a descending scale of repetitions and exercises. Anyone can try these circuits, just modify for your ability. Give it a go this week HERE
