Special Edition News

In this special edition to members, we wish to update Members as to what has happened over the past month.

Members will be aware that over the past 5 or so years, the Society was undergoing major difficulties in administration and financial management.  Much of our retained financial situation has been eroded and the Society was looking down the barrel in terms of its future ongoing operations.  The current Board has been in deep discussion about our future and the following is an indication of what has occurred - we hope that our members will support our actions.

We have recently received an offer from the City of West Torrens to purchase outright the 2 sites owned by The Society at Cowandilla.  The offer was significantly in excess of $2m with a free lease period up until the end of March 2015, allowing us adequate time to secure an alternative location.  This offer was considered in great detail by the Board of Governance.  The details were also reviewed by The Society’s Financial Auditor (Bentleys) and Society Solicitors (Lempriere Abbott McLeod).  After much deliberation, the Board of Governance voted in favour of accepting the offer and settlement has since taken place.

The Board is keen to continue the growth of the organization and overall felt that the sale and receipt of this significant sum of funds would allow the organization to better manage its consolidation and expansion plans.  The Board is currently reviewing investment options and is receiving proposals from a number of fund managers.  A Board Sub-Committee is keen to hear from Members who would like to offer their suggestions on alternative locations and they may contact the Sub-Committee via the CEO by email to tony.taylor@royallifesaavingsa.com.au or by telephoning 0400 976 761.

We thank our Solicitor Bob Holland and Financial Advisor David Pap for their support and recommendations during this process.

Australian Masters Games 2015

Royal Life Saving is calling all Pool Lifesaving Athletes and Officials to participate in the upcoming Australian Masters Games 2015 right here in Adelaide.

The Australian Masters Games (AMG) is a biannual sporting event; one of the largest participation-based sporting events in Australia! The Australian Masters Games aims to encourage active lifestyles for Masters in the community whilst providing a fun and social atmosphere for sports participation and competition.

Being held from 3rd to 10th October 2015, the AMG will see over 10,000 people from across Australia and overseas converge on Adelaide for a week-long premier event, which will offer over 50 sports.

The AMG are a fantastic opportunity for athletes to enhance their Pool Lifesaving skills and have some fun with fellow lifesavers from across Australia – and the Masters Games are open for any Pool Lifesavers over the age of 25.  As well as an extensive sporting schedule, the Australian Masters Games 2015 will also comprise a variety of social events throughout the week, providing a festival atmosphere for both competitors and visitors to Adelaide.
