West of England Mayoral election booklets arrive on doorstep

A printed booklet packed with information about next month’s Mayoral election for the West of England Mayor is being delivered to households in Bath and North East Somerset, Bristol and South Gloucestershire. The booklet contains information about the candidates, the Mayor’s role, the election, and how you can vote on 6 May.
Residents that have requested a postal vote will start to receive their postal votes, while registered voters who wish to vote by proxy are reminded that the deadline to apply is 5pm on 27 April.

More help for our creative sector businesses and freelancers

We are providing increased support for our region's creative businesses to help them respond and adapt. Grants for creative sector businesses and freelancers are now open for applications – the closing date is 7 May.

Creative Business Grants 
These grants fund creative projects that support recovery and resilience, employ freelance creatives, engage local communities and advance diversity and inclusion. Grants range from £5,000 to £10,000. Find out more and apply here.

Creative Freelancer Grants
These give creative freelancers the opportunity to become more resilient and develop their own creative product, practice or service. Grants range from £1,000 to £3,000. Find out more and apply here.


UK Community Renewal Fund

We are collating bids into the new UK Community Renewal Fund (UKCRF), which has been introduced by the Government for 2021/22 to support people and communities most in need across the UK.
The fund, which totals £220 million, also intends to help the UK move smoothly away from the EU structural fund programme and is a pilot programme to prepare for the UK Shared Prosperity Fund.
We’re calling on councils, universities, colleges, third sector organisations and others to get in touch and submit bids for UKCRF funding by midnight Friday 21 May 2021.
Eligible projects must fall within the themes of investment in skills, local business or community and place, and located in the WECA area (Bath & North East Somerset, Bristol and South Gloucestershire). For more info on how to apply for funding, please visit

Helping people gain a brighter future

We’re encouraging more people to seek help from our free Future Bright career coaching and support service.

Future Bright has already helped over 2,000 people across our region with one-to-one support from a professional career coach. Over 1,000 of those have entered training and at least 600 have increased their income. 

The scheme is a key part of our aim to support residents develop the skills that businesses and employers need, to help the region's recovery.
