Toronto First Nations School Students Complete Outdoor Education Leadership Program at TRAILS
In mid-May, grade 4 and 5 Toronto First Nations School students visited TRAILS in Newmarket, to participate in experiential, outdoor leadership learning, through the support of the Leacock Foundation. It was the students’ third time at TRAILS, and they had a full day of canoeing, learning how to make fire, and cooking outdoors. At the end of the day, after participating in a reflection period, all of the students graduated the outdoor leadership program with support from the TRAILS staff.
After-School Technology Programming at Get Ahead
This past month, The Leacock Foundation launched its inaugural Extended Day Program at the Get Ahead College in Queenstown. Learners came to the computer labs after school from 2:30-4:30 pm to work with the highly regarded Master Maths computer software. Since the launch, the computer labs have been at capacity every day and students have requested the labs open on Saturday mornings as well! We continue to be inspired by the perseverance and drive of Get Ahead College students!
Branksome Hall-Get Ahead 10th Anniversary Celebration
On May 28th, Leacock members joined by Peter Oliver, and Branksome Hall alumni, students, and staff all came together in celebration of the 10th Anniversary of Branksome Hall’s Triangle of Hope partnership with the Queenstown Get Ahead Project school. The evening provided a wonderful reunion for the alumni, and gave Leacock members an opportunity to hear personal stories and reflections resulting from the 10 year partnership Branksome and Get Ahead have shared. It was a great reminder of how many young people in both Toronto and South Africa have had their lives positively impacted by Leacock programming. We look forward to another great decade with Branksome Hall and the Get Ahead Project!
YPL Members Visit Get Ahead Project Schools
While traveling through South Africa, two of the Leacock Foundation’s newest Young Professionals of Leacock (YPL) members Carolyn Gooderham and Peter Spragge visited all three Get Ahead Project school campuses in Queenstown and Whittlesea. There, they visited the three students their family sponsors, and spent time visiting classrooms, teachers, and students. Along with their visit, they very generously donated sport supplies to the campuses, to be used for leadership and team activities, as well as during break. Stay tuned for a blog post via the Leacock Foundation's website with more details and photos from their visit!
