NYC, home of Powering Potential
As you know, schools around the world are currently closed to contain the coronavirus crisis. This means our remote schools in Peru and Tanzania are also closed. With these changes, the priorities for Powering Potential Inc. (PPI) have shifted to maintain the safety of our staff and students.

We currently have three schools in the Bunda District of Tanzania, Africa. The Sazira Secondary School has already been expanded to a SPARC+ lab with 20 Raspberry Pi computers. The Moneygram Foundation generously awarded us a grant in January to upgrade the SPARC labs at Mekomariro and Kabasa Secondary Schools. Our sister organization, the Potential Enhancement Foundation, was about to confirm an equipment order for these schools when the crisis began to unfold. This project is currently on hold as we assess the situation on a day-by-day basis.

Our newest SPARC lab is in the San Francisco School located in Iquitos, Peru. Dana Rensi, PPI Regional Director, Latin America, has been on-site to train additional teachers on its usage. Peru's state of emergency stranded over 1,400 Americans within its borders along with our colleague. Dana worked closely with the U.S. Embassy to ascertain transport back to the United States. She arrived safely in her home state of Oregon after her ordeal on Friday, March 27, 2020.

New York City has been hit hard by the Covid-19 pandemic. The PPI office has shifted to remote work at home as mandated by the governor. Our annual spring fundraiser in New York City also will not take place this year.

We know that our cause depends on people who work towards a better world. This requires pragmatic thinkers with the vision to know that a brighter future is on the horizon. You are one of the many supporters making that world a reality. For this reason, we will survive this storm stronger than we were before.

"Afya haina kima" is a Swahili proverb meaning "Health is priceless."

With this in mind, we encourage our readers to take the necessary precautions to keep yourselves safe at this time. Follow the latest news and mandates from your local government. Maintain social distancing. Remember to follow all health protocols for your safety and others. Lastly, be sure to check on your loved ones and neighbors.
From our staff & students, asante sana (thank you)!
