NEW: Donate Candy for Downtown Community Trick-or Treating

downtown trick or treatOur merchants are always so incredibly generous when it comes to donating merchandise for fundraisers, sponsoring sport teams and so much more. Trick or treating in downtown is a wonderful community tradition but the cost of the candy for the merchants can average around $300! So many people have asked for small ways to support the merchants during construction, well here's a way: The Chappaqua-Millwood Chamber of Commerce has set up collection bins by the police station for those who want to donate a bag of candy, or two, for this community event. The candy will be distributed equally to participating businesses to help offset the cost to the merchants.

NEW: New Castle Supervisor's Report - 2019 - 3rd Quarter Review

I have said it again and again: it is truly an honor to serve the citizens of New Castle. From the start, I have believed that your Town Supervisor should be guided by rights and obligations. The rights of the community to be heard and to be informed are critical to a responsive Town Government. And we must always be conscious of our obligations to listen and communicate effectively as we work to address current concerns and problems while at the same time improving our Town and planning for the future.

NEW: Meatless Monday Week 4

meatless mondaysOver 50 households in New Castle have signed the Meatless Monday pledge to swap meat from their diets one day a week through December 16. This number is great, but we’d love to double this number. Has your family considered eating less meat? This is a great way to try it out. Sign our pledge today. We’ll provide tips and recipes each week to keep you inspired and successful during the challenge.

One of the most frequently asked questions we’ve received with regard to Meatless Mondays is how to get kids involved who are picky eaters. Here are some options that have never failed in our house.

  • Bean and Cheese Burritos- the whole clan loved this recipe
  • Cheese and Spinach Ravioli
  • Hidden Veggie Mac and Cheese
  • Baked Ziti
  • Various soups (black bean, tomato) paired with a grilled cheese sandwich

If your kid isn’t a picky eater and will try a variety of foods, this website is a great resource for kid friendly, vegetarian dinners.

You can find many different meatless options at our local restaurants for both you and your kids. Let us know what great meatless gems you’ve found around town by emailing the Sustainability Advisory Board at

NEW: Chappaqua Farmers Market - Fall chowder, flower frost and belly-warming brandy

CFM flyerI just came back from a super quick trip to Boston for college visits with my daughter Mina. To my frustration, the day was too jam-packed for chowdah.

Naturally, the first thing I did when I got home was to thumb through chowder recipes so I can scratch that itch by making one over the weekend using Pura Vida Fish. I landed on two recipes. This recipe which leans toward tradition, and this blushing fish chowder strikes me as as a bit more autumnal, in color, at least.

Either one is perfect for the crisp fall weekend ahead, served with a wedge of your favorite market miche (and how nice is it that you have to two marvelous miches to choose from every week at this market?)
