Autumn's Golden Delights - the latest newsletter from Calm Reflex

Well hello there

I was so pleased to welcome new clients and welcome back old clients during what was a busy August.  I so love sharing my passion for complementary therapies and helping my clients to feel better..

I can't believe that we are now into the Autumn season in what has been a very strange year.

I have been strictly adhering to Government Guidelines and though I look a bit like an alien in my visor and apron clients have been receiving some amazing results!

The Autumn Equinox

This is the first day of the autumn season and occurs when the sun passes the equator moving from the northern to the southern hemisphere. The North Pole begins to tilt away from the sun. Day and night have approximately the same length. Autumnal equinox is near 22 September.

It is the time of the autumn equinox, and the harvest is winding down. The fields are nearly empty because the crops have been plucked and stored for the coming winter. Mabon is the mid-harvest festival, and it is when we take a few moments to honour the changing seasons and celebrate the second harvest. On or around September 21 (or March 21, if you're in the Southern Hemisphere), for many Pagan and Wiccan traditions it is a time of giving thanks for the things we have, whether it is abundant crops or other blessings. It's a time of plenty, of gratitude, and of sharing our abundance with those less fortunate.  For Christians of course it is the celebration of the harvest festival with the giving of food baskets to the poor.

Rituals and Ceremonies

Depending on your individual spiritual path, there are many different ways you can celebrate Mabon, but typically the focus is on either the second harvest aspect or the balance between light and dark. This, after all, is the time when there is an equal amount of day and night. While we celebrate the gifts of the earth, we also accept that the soil is dying. We have food to eat, but the crops are brown and going dormant. Warmth is behind us, cold lies ahead.

So why might the Autumn Equinox affect your sleep?

It is all to do with those light levels.  Humans are programmed to feel sleepy in a dark environment and when the light levels start to change in the Autumn and for that matter the Spring equinox this can have an affect on our biological rhythms resulting in disturbed sleep patterns.

Flower Therapy Reading for the Autumn

The red rose is a beautiful flower both in scent and look.  But did you know that is has a deeper meaning.  This is all about opening your heart to possibility for love.  Often this means releasing old wounds and patterns of limitation which are blocking your true potential.   Though the red rose has long been associated with romantic love it can be just as relevant to loving yourself too.  As the Beatles once said "All we need is love".

A very easy way to connect with the energy of red rose is to hold it to your heart, close your eyes and welcome its healing energies.  You may be reminded of past relationships, arguments, or heartache.  Let these images flash through your mind as a witness and without judgment then let them slip away one by one like clouds passing a sky.  You'll feel your chest lighten as you become balanced, prepared to receive the perfect love you desire.

A firm favourite way to work with flowers of mine is to  have a "petal" bath.  You simply drop the petals one by one (in a mindful way) into the bath and enjoy the beautiful flower energy.

Autumn

The golden delights of Autumnal splendour
The delightful bounty of Autumn's harvest
The crunch underfoot where they walk together
The screaming kiddies kicking leaves to a mess

The joyful wonder of a colourful world
The festival magic of giving and receiving
As the leaves twist, twirl, shimmer and swirl
The changing light prepares us to go within
To release and relieve any pain and forgive any sin

As we say a last farewell to summer's day
We appreciate the glory of Autumn's way

So it just remains to wish you the best of the season.  See you next time.

Blessings
