Battle Ground's Speech-Language Pathologists

Hillary Betzen sits in the cockpit of her X-wing, as her faithful droid companion, R2-D2, is positioned behind her serving as navigator on yet another critical mission. This image may be borrowed from the famous Star Wars scene in which Luke Skywalker saves the day, but in real life, Betzen and R2 are heroes of education, helping Battle Ground Public Schools students overcome a wide range of speech, communication and reading issues.

Betzen, who works at River HomeLink, is one of the district’s Speech Language Pathologists, or SLPs. She uses images from Star Wars and other popular movies and video games as her Zoom video conference background to help engage with students who are learning from home. CAM Academy student's graduation speech featured by Senator Murray

Wednesday was graduation day for the seniors at CAM Academy, kicking off a busy season of graduation celebrations for Battle Ground Public Schools.

A segment of Olivia Parrish's speech that was a part of CAM's virtual graduation ceremony was recently featured by Senator Patty Murray, who is using her Twitter platform to share inspiring speeches from graduating high school and college seniors from around the state who aren't able to deliver their speeches in person this year.

We ❤️ Olivia's inspiring and hopeful message, and we are so proud of her and all of our 2020 graduates!

Reminder: Please take the Reopening Schools Survey by June 7

We need feedback from parents and guardians as we plan for the reopening of schools in the fall. We do not know yet what school will look like next year, but as the district prepares for a wide range of possibilities, we want to know how comfortable families would be with different scenarios for school and how we can improve remote learning. The survey takes about 10 minutes to complete and is online. If you have students in multiple grades, please feel free to provide specific grade-level feedback in the “other” and “additional comments” boxes. The deadline to complete the survey is Sunday, June 7. Thank you for partnering with us to support the needs of all students and helping us to navigate these challenging times.
