Summer maintenance preserves Battle Ground schools' assets

Crews have been hard at work this summer making improvements and scheduled maintenance repairs at Battle Ground Public Schools. The goal is for work to be completed by the time students return to school Aug. 27. Visit our blog for a list of some of the more notable projects, which are largely funded thanks to levy dollars.
BGPS’ Board of Directors conducted regular board meetings on July 22 and Aug. 12. Highlights from these meetings are in this week's BG Board, Briefly. The next regular board meeting will be held on Monday, August 26 at 6 p.m. on the Lewisville campus.

Battle Ground High School's AFJROTC cadets launch into leadership

It was an action-packed July for Battle Ground High School AFJROTC cadets taking part in this summer's 3-week Leadership Laboratory! The morning of July 16 kicked off with a Blackhawk helicopter landing on the practice football field where the students met with the Washington National Guard crew to observe flight operations and get an up-close look at the impressive and iconic aircraft.

In the afternoon, the cadets launched 42 rockets as part of NASA's #GlobalRocketLaunch event to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the Apollo 11 mission to the moon. Check out some photos from the day's excitement on Facebook!

Join us in welcoming our newest teachers!

Battle Ground Public Schools' newest teachers took part in New Teacher Orientation at Chief Umtuch Middle School. Please join us in welcoming our new teachers and staff to the district! We're excited to have them on board, and we're all looking forward to a fantastic year of learning.

Updated immunization requirements, information about free clinics

In 2019, the Washington State Legislature passed a bill that removes the personal and philosophical option to exempt children from the MMR (measles, mumps, and rubella) vaccine required for school and child care entry.

The law took effect July 28 and applies to public and private schools and child care centers. The law also requires employees and volunteers at child care centers to provide immunization records indicating they have received the MMR vaccine or proof of immunity. Visit the Washington State Department of Health website for more information

More information about Battle Ground Public Schools' immunization policies and related forms can be found on the distrcit website at There are several free and low cost immunization clinics available locally. Click the flyer at top-right for details, or visit our Community Events page for the Russian and Spanish language versions of the flyer.

Tiger Football gives back

Proud of these boys...when the call went out to help our neighbor they went above and beyond. Other than a few strings from a wasp nest everything went well. Thank you to all our parents who supported their kids' participation. See more photos on the Battle Ground Tiger Football Facebook page
