Focus on technology

BGPS earns recognition from Google for Education

Google is calling attention to how Battle Ground Public Schools' teachers (BGPS) use technology in the classroom. The school district has become the fourth in the Pacific Northwest region to earn the distinction: Google for Education Reference District. Reference Districts are those that have demonstrated excellence and leadership through the innovative use of technology to drive impact and positive learning outcomes. It means that Battle Ground will be a resource for other districts looking to adopt Google educational technologies.

In Battle Ground schools, students use Chromebooks that are checked out to them for the school year to complete a variety of assignments on applications such as G Suite for Education, also known to students as Google Classroom.

Read more about the honor on the district website.
BGPS’ Board of Directors conducted a community forum on Wednesday, December 5, a regular board meeting on Monday, Dec. 10, and another community forum on Wednesday, December 12. Highlights from the meetings are in this week's BG Board, Briefly. The next regular board meeting will be held on Monday, Jan. 14 at 6 p.m. on the Lewisville campus.

Pleasant Valley Primary's elves are here to make your spirits bright

This week marked the beginning of PVP's "12 Days of Elfmas" contest! At 7pm each night from now until Christmas break, PVP will post a picture on their Facebook page of their elves in a different location somewhere in the district. The first family to send a private message to PVP's Facebook page naming the correct location of the elves wins a prize!

The first few clues have already been posted, so be sure to like PVP's Facebook page so you can watch the fun unfold.

4th grade Leadership students lead the way to collecting 1,415 cans at TVP

The Fourth Grade Leadership students at Tukes Valley Primary just completed their two week food drive to benefit the North County Food Bank. It was a big undertaking, and we are so proud of all their hard work!

The leadership students were in charge of advertising the food drive through posters, phone calls to parents, and assembly announcements. They were also in charge of collecting and counting the donations each day. In the end, TVP collected 1,415 cans to give back to the community.

Way to go Timberwolves!

Battle Ground Education Foundation donates life-saving AEDs

Battle Ground Education Foundation (BGeF) President Colleen O'Neal presented the Battle Ground Public Schools district with a donation of $3,989.12 to purchase two Automated External Defibrillators, or AEDs. The donation means that every school in the district will have one of the life-saving devices.

AEDs make it possible for more people to respond to a medical emergency where defibrillation is required. Because AEDs are portable and easy to use, they can be used by non-medical people. In fact, an AED at Chief Umtuch Middle School was used in early 2017 to save a man’s life after he went into sudden cardiac arrest while playing basketball, providing a great reminder of the effectiveness of citizen CPR combined with having an AED nearby.

BGeF, which has a sole mission of supporting Battle Ground Public Schools, has also donated to literacy programs, the Family and Community Resource Center, and unified sports. Thank you BGeF and its contributors!
Join the BGPS Team! Many positions are now available, including two basic education assistants, a swing shift custodian, a community education facilitator, a gym recreation facilitator, a middle school media technician, five special education assistants (2 baseload, 2 student specific, and 1 overload), assistant coaches for baseball and softball, a JROTC certificated substitute, various other certificated substitutes, and classified substitutes
