Rare flightless bird appears at Daybreak, hands out Chromebooks

Prairie High School life skills coach Alison Weddle wanted to help ease some of the stress and tension that she's noticed since our schools are closed, so she hatched a plan: she would wear a full chicken costume while helping to distribute Chromebooks to primary school students! The small gesture helped bring smiles to the faces of children and parents alike, so her plan worked eggs-actly like she'd hoped! Visit our Facebook page to see more photos of technology services employees at Tukes Valley and Daybreak primary schools distributing Chromebooks to families.

Focus on learning

Kindergarten students stay connected through remote learning

Tukes Valley Primary School kindergarten teacher Meadowlark Clark holds up a series of cards, and one-by-one, demonstrates to her students how to phonetically pronounce the letter combinations written on them. Next, Clark leads the students through a practice of rhyming skills. Each student gives a thumbs up when a pair of words rhyme, and a thumbs down when they do not. If this sounds just like a typical kindergarten class, well, that’s exactly the point. The difference is that the instruction is happening via YouTube videos, as remote learning has become the new norm for all of Battle Ground Public Schools’ students.

BGPS’ Board of Directors conducted a regular board meeting on Monday, April 13. Highlights from the meeting are in this week's BG Board, Briefly. The next regular board meeting will be held on Monday, April 27 at 6 p.m. via video teleconference.

Student helpdesk and Chromebook support

We will continue to check Chromebooks out to students daily from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday at the CASEE campus starting on Monday, April 20. Chromebooks with hardware issues can also be returned and swapped out for a replacement device during these times.

In addition, students can get live support by emailing or by calling (360) 885-5465. We have people staffing this student helpdesk weekdays from 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and we have emailed all students in the district to notify them of this resource.

More information is available at If you have students or parents needing tech help of any sort, you can direct them there.

Boundary exceptions accepted electronically beginning May 1 at 7 a.m.

Application forms for out-of-district student transfers will be accepted electronically starting at 7 a.m. on May 1 for the 2020-21 school year. Transfer requests for next year will NOT be accepted before this date.

While district offices are closed to the public, students who wish to transfer out of the Battle Ground School District need to fill out the Choice Transfer Form and then return it electronically. Please email your completed and signed forms to on or after May 1 beginning at 7 a.m., and they will be processed in the order in which they are received. You may request that a transfer form be mailed to you by emailing the boundaries office.
