Apply now for Battle Ground's Alternative Learning Programs
Battle Ground Public Schools’ (BGPS) specialized and alternative learning experience programs are accepting enrollment applications for the 2021-22 school year. Parents and students are invited to attend upcoming information sessions to learn more about each program.
Battle Ground Public Schools offers four specialized and alternative programs for students in kindergarten through high school. The programs are designed to help students pursue their interests and gain the knowledge and skills needed for college and careers. The programs offer a variety of education opportunities, from a parent-partnered homeschool and a rigorous academy focused on academics, to a half-day science-focused program for high school students and one that supports self-learners.

Ballots for Battle Ground's replacement Educational Programs & Operations levy were sent last week and should have arrived in your mailbox by now. Be sure your vote is counted and return your ballot by Feb. 9! Information about the levy is on the district website.

CAM senior named Prestigious Cooke College Scholarship Program semifinal
Congratulations to CAM Academy senior Michelle Li on being selected as a semifinalist for the prestigious Cooke College Scholarship Program. This highly selective scholarship provides exceptionally talented students with up to $40,000 annually for four years of college, to enable them to attend a top-performing college or university. Every year, around 60 students are chosen for the scholarship based on exceptional academic ability and achievement, financial need, persistence, and leadership.
Li is among the 496 semifinalists in the United States, and one of just three from the state of Washington. Semifinalists were chosen from a pool of 5,860 applicants and represent 428 different high schools. The 2021 Cooke College Scholarship recipients will be announced in April. Li was also nominated for the Presidential Scholars Program, and is currently in the finalist application stage. Best of luck, Michelle!

BGHS combo accepted to compete in the Mingus Jazz Fest
Congratulations to the Battle Ground High School Jazz Combo on being accepted to compete virtually in this year's Charles Mingus Jazz Festival Feb. 11-13. At the 14th annual festival, students will participate in online workshops, Mingus special events, and a public broadcast showcasing performances of Mingus' music.
The Mingus Festival is focused on musicians ages 13-18, and individuals can participate directly with entries for solos, arranging, contrafact composition, contrafact transcription, performance transcription, and lyric writing.
