Transport yourself to a Winter Wonderland through BGHS' Christmas Doors

Do you feel the need to get in the holiday spirit just a little more than you already are? Then watch this video slideshow showing off Battle Ground High School's "Christmas Doors" decorations! The annual tradition is a favorite among students and staff, and as you can see, they certainly don't hold back when it comes to creativity and holiday spirit!

Focus on giving

First graders send holiday cheer to students whose school burned

Each December, Tukes Valley Primary first grade teacher Lyla Smith asks her students to ponder the same question: What’s the difference between making wishes and putting them on a list for Santa Claus, and making wishes to help others in order to help make the world a better place?

In her 22 years of teaching first grade for Battle Ground Public Schools, Smith cannot remember a response that stood out from any other—until this year. Unprompted, one of Smith’s students brought up that the elementary school in Paradise, Calif. had burned down. Another student quickly added that their entire town burned down, and many people lost their homes and all their belongings.

That’s all it took for the class to decide what to do for the “Tree of Warm Wishes” project that Smith’s students participate in every year before Christmas.

Read more about the project on the district website.

Checking in on Pleasant Valley Primary's elves

Last week marked the beginning of PVP's "12 Days of Elfmas" contest! At 7pm each night from now until Christmas break, PVP has been posting a picture on their Facebook page of their elves in a different location somewhere in the district. The first family to send a private message to PVP's Facebook page naming the correct location of the elves wins a prize!

Time is running out, so be sure to like PVP's Facebook page so you can watch the rest of the fun unfold.

River HomeLink is going to need an awfully big tree to fit these gifts underneath

The River HomeLink community came through in a big way for the school's annual Giving Tree program. K-8 counselor Alyssa Leigh-Smith led the charge in organizing and collecting the gifts, which as you can see piled up rather quickly! Way to go Lynx!

While we're featuring RHL's Giving Tree, we're inspired and impressed by the generosity and giving spirit of all of our district schools which hosted dozens of donation drives for food and clothing and giving trees for families in need. A BIG THANKS to everyone who participated this year in helping to make the Battle Ground community so special to be a part of.
