Battle Ground Announces Superintendent Retirement, Successor

Battle Ground Public Schools’ Superintendent Mark Ross announced Monday at the district school board meeting his plan to retire this summer on June 30 after a 39-year career in education. The board, noting that the district would benefit from a proven leader who understands the district’s needs during this challenging time, unanimously appointed Denny Waters, Battle Ground’s Deputy Superintendent, to be the next superintendent effective July 1.

During their meeting, board members noted that Ross has led the district through challenging times with grace and courage and has remained ever approachable. “Thank you for your service and stepping up to a difficult job,” Director Rob Henrikson said. “I appreciate your approachableness and willingness to always talk with me.”

BGPS' Family and Community Resource Center benefits from KGW Toy Drive

Battle Ground Public Schools' Family and Community Resource Center (FCRC) is grateful for being selected as one of the beneficiaries of KGW's annual "Great Toy Drive."  FCRC staff and volunteers have been busy sorting and wrapping the gifts, which will be delivered starting this Friday to local families in need.

The FCRC has been working throughout the year to support families that are struggling now more than ever. These gifts are going to the district's families with the greatest needs, and we are very appreciative of everyone who donated and the work of KGW and other sponsoring organizations that made this generous donation possible.

Prairie's combined choirs perform in "Home for the Holidays"

Earlier this month, the Prairie High School choirs teamed up with singers from across the Portland metro region for “Home for the Holidays”. This virtual variety show was broadcast at local nursing homes in an effort to reach vulnerable populations that have been increasingly isolated during the pandemic. You can watch the uplifting performances on YouTube here

If you have time to watch the entire performance, it’s well worth the time! But if you’d like to focus on the performances from Prairie students, we’ve bookmarked their songs in the links below:
