Join us in celebrating our School Lunch Heroes on Friday, May 1

Tomorrow is National Superhero Day, and you can help us celebrate our School Lunch Heroes! On Friday, May 1, Nutrition Services will be giving employees at each of our school lunch pickup sites thank you cards, a small gift, a cape, and a mask.

Families are also encouraged to show their appreciation for these essential employees and #EduHeroes! If you and your children are planning on picking up a meal on May 1, you can make posters to hold up as you drive through, write a thank you note, or simply say "thanks for all you do." If your meal is coming to your bus stop, don't forget about the bus drivers and aides who are delivering meals as well!

Battle Ground Education Association makes pair of $5,000 donations

The Battle Ground Education Association has made two $5,000 donations that will benefit Battle Ground School District families and the greater community. The organization, which comprises certificated employees of Battle Ground Public Schools, donated $5,000 each to the district’s Family and Community Resource Center (FCRC) and the North County Community Food Bank.

“We appreciate the level of support the community has shown us, and we want to do what we can to give back in this difficult time,” said BGEA president Fiona Engrebretson. “Lydia and the rest of the staff at the FCRC do such a fantastic job, and they, along with the North County Community Food Bank, provide an invaluable community resource.” Read more on the district's blog
BGPS’ Board of Directors conducted a regular board meeting on Monday, April 27. Highlights from the meeting are in this week's BG Board, Briefly. The next regular board meeting will be held on Monday, May 11 at 6 p.m. via video teleconference.

Tukes Valley Primary teacher Heidi Lammers earns National Board Certification

Lammers is one of five educators from Battle Ground Public Schools who earned certification in 2019 from the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards (NBPTS). This accomplishment marks the successful completion of a rigorous, one-to-three year program aimed at honing teaching techniques and styles that bolster students’ enthusiasm for learning.

National Board Certification is an advanced teaching credential that goes beyond state licensure. Only about 40 percent of educators earn the certification on their first attempt. Battle Ground Public Schools now has 48 National Board Certified Teachers.

“National Board certification is a big deal,” said Deputy Superintendent Denny Waters “We are fortunate to have teachers who care so deeply about their craft and who are always working to get better. Our students are certainly the biggest beneficiaries.”

ICYMI: Battle Ground, Prairie high schools hold online plant sales

Battle Ground and Prairie high schools are offering flowering and vegetable plants for sale online only this year. The sales are open now and plants are going fast, so don't miss your chance to support our fantastic horticulture students/programs!

There will be no greenhouse access this year, no cash or checks or credit taken onsite. Pickup will be by appointment only. People who purchase plants will need to sign up for a pickup time between May 5 and 9 for BGHS purchases and May 6-13 for PHS purchases. You will schedule a pickup appointment after you complete your online transaction.

For BGHS variety and prices, visit Mrs. Veitenheimer's website. For information about the plants available for purchase from Prairie High School, check out the “What’s Growing in Prairie’s Greenhouse?” Facebook page

Sales at each school will be limited to a few hundred transactions so that the programs can safely accommodate pickup while observing social distancing requirements. The plants are grown in Battle Ground Public Schools’ greenhouses by students in the district's Career and Technical Education programs. Money raised from the online sales will support the district's horticulture and FFA programs. More information is on the district website.
