Teachers, we have something important we need to tell you...

Focus on fantastic feats

Battle Ground teacher, school counselor complete the Boston Marathon

Every day in Battle Ground Public Schools, our teachers and counselors amaze and inspire. Sometimes it’s simply their ability to connect with kids, or to teach complicated subjects in ways that make it easier for students to comprehend and retain the information. Other times, the inspiration is more of the jaw-dropping variety, like when you have a teacher and a counselor who’ve successfully completed the world-renowned Boston Marathon together.

Captain Strong Primary physical education teacher Sandee Myers and Chief Umtuch Middle School counselor Krista Roadifer accomplished the impressive feat on April 15 at the 123rd Annual Boston Marathon. The race takes place every Patriot’s Day and attracts half a million spectators, making it New England's most widely-viewed sporting event.. Read more on the BGPS blog

Students attend Russian speaking youth leadership conference

Eighteen BGPS high school students represented Battle Ground Public Schools at the 23rd Annual Russian-Speaking Youth Leadership Conference at Clackamas Community College on April 25. Our students joined more than 100 other high school students from Oregon and SW Washington for a day of workshops offered by Russian-speaking educators and professionals. The conference theme was "We are the future," and the goal was to promote youth leadership within the local Russian-speaking community and to help students reach their full potential.

At the conference, students participated in two workshops. The first workshop was led by Olga Sotiriadi, the founder of Scarlet Sails Theater in Portland, OR. Students delved into theater work by splitting into small groups and performing scenes from Little Red Riding Hood. The second workshop was presented by Portland Police officers about opportunities for high school students to participate in the Police Cadet Program designed to offer training in the field of law enforcement. The students also participated in a college fair where they had a chance to ask questions, hear from admission counselors and explore opportunities after high school.
