Hi Runners!


Welcome to the 2020 Marathon training season! For those who do not know me, my name is John Furey and I will be coaching you through your amazing Boston Marathon journey this year. Please always feel free to reach out via email (jfurey611@gmail.com) with any questions you may have throughout the season. You'll receive one email a week from me to keep you informed and motivated throughout this training season. Below you'll find some important facts about the Furey262 training programs and weekly newsletters. 
  • The training group is made up of mostly novice marathoners from 21 different charities with a common goal of fundraising for wonderful causes and running the greatest race in the world.
     
  • The training program consists of:
    • 19 Saturday group training runs
    • 14 Wednesday evening hill repeat workouts
    • Workshops & events throughout the season
    • Weekly email newsletter
    • Coaching to help you with training plan and answer questions
    • Complimentary injury screening by Joint Ventures Physical Therapists
    • Physical Therapists on-site following Saturday runs for Q&A and Quick Assessments
    • Luxury bus ride to start of March 28th 21 - miler followed by a post-run party
    • Use of Joint Ventures facility on Saturdays – stretch, roll, change, etc.
    • Tremendous team bonding with great people
    • Dedication, motivation, physical and mental toughness, and family support  
  • The group long runs begin Saturday, December 7th from Joint Ventures Physical Therapy, 648 Beacon Street in Kenmore Square.  Doors open at 7:30am, run departs at 8:00am. For those of you that have run with me in the past, Joint Ventures was recently renovated and the entrance is now just a few doors down from in the old building.
     
  • Group hill runs will begin on Wednesday, January 8th at 5:30pm in Boston Common.
     
  • The long run & the hill runs are two of the most important pieces of the running program.
     
  • Injury prevention/injury management is critical to completing Boston. Joint Ventures Physical Therapy provides a valuable service by offering complimentary injury screenings at any of their seven Boston locations.  Please call 617-536-1161 to set up screening.  Joint Ventures also provides several Physical Therapists for Q&A and Quick Assessments following the Saturday Long Runs.
     
  • On Nov. 30th -  Dec. 1st, Heartbreak Hill Running Company (at all locations) will be offering 20% off winter running gear for all Furey 26.2 charities to help prepare you for upcoming season.
     
  • There are many different training programs available. It is important to pick a training program that fits your abilities, goals, injury status, time availability, and current running mileage. Most novices do well with 3, maximum 4, running days per week. This year we've added two new plans. Please review the program profiles to help you find a suitable training plan for your individual needs:
