GCSE exams have begun and Year 11 are focused and working hard, as is the FHS community who is supporting students to obtain the best results they possibly can. This can be a very stressful time for all involved and I have been really proud of our students across all the years who are respecting the exam season and all that it means. Staff are once again predicting record results for Year 11 moving us once again into the top 10% of schools in the country.
I was delighted to receive an email from the Local Authority requesting my attendance at school appeals – the first time in 11 years the school has been oversubscribed. We are looking forward to welcoming a full year group into Year 7 again in September. Despite the government pulling the funding for Summer School we will still be offering this to our new Year 7 students and I am confident many will attend.
I am sure you will want to join me in congratulating Mr Nick Lewis in becoming the new Head of School. Mr Lewis will be taking his role up fully in September. I will continue to have oversight of the school while I work with the Excalibur Trust to develop a hub in Bristol and working across other schools to improve outcomes for children. It has been a hard decision for me as I love this school very much and to not be here everyday and so involved will be a struggle but it is time for new thinking and new challenges.
