Help Us Tell The Story of Fiber Art in Maine

We are THRILLED to announce a $20,000 award from the National Endowment of the Arts for our new project: “The Story of Fiber Art in Maine During the Past Half Century as Told by the Artists through Interviews, Retrospective Photo Galleries, and Historical Archives.”

This is an exciting 18-month project during which we will interview and photograph key artists who have participated in and created fiber art during this period. We will also study great pioneers who have passed, and create online commemorative and retrospective galleries of their work. It’s a chance to put on record the story of fiber that many of us are living and creating in, and to pass that down to future generations.

Potential Interviewees include Jill Snyder Wallace, Susan Mills, Janet Conner, Jill Vendituoli, Arlene Morris, Elizabeth Busch, Barbara Burns, Sarah Haskell, Gayle Fraas and Duncan Slade, Jeremy Frey, Bonnie Faulkner, Roslyn Logsdon, Stephanie Crossman, Susan Carlson, Jennifer Lee Morrow, Sara Hotchkiss, Susan Winn, Kris Sandoy, Pam Slaughter, Kathy Goddu, Lissa Hunter, Jo Diggs, and Geo Neptune. Commemorative web galleries are planned for: Molly Neptune Parker, Richard Lee, Katharine Cobey, Elizabeth Stoyko, Michael Patterson, Mary Allen Chaisson, Nancy Hemenway and your suggestions here.

The catch is that we received only half the amount of the requested project funding, and are required to restructure and trim the project and submit a new budget by the end of November. We can’t conceive of cutting out interviews, or web galleries, slideshows,  printed portfolios and our planned exhibition.

We want to do it all!

We now ask members, supporters and friends to please donate within the NEXT TEN DAYS to our attempt to replace the funds that the NEA left out. Your contributions and pledges are due by Sunday, November 28 in time for us to submit a revised budget showing the NEA that we can complete this project as written. Cash contributions can be made online here to save time or in person by the deadline. Pledges of eventual cash (payable until 1/31/2022) can be made by emailing christine@mainefiberarts.org or by phoning 207-721-0678 for details.

Please help us reach our goal of $20,000 in the next 10 days! One of our major donors has already given us $5,000 toward this match. Any amount will help.
