ELC SPOTLIGHT
ELC Alumna Melinda Skeels
Melinda Skeels has come a long way from the windowless office she occupied as one of the ELC's first articled students.
UPDATES AND SHOUT OUTS:
UPDATE ON MARINE PLASTICS: In February, NDP MP Nathan Cullen tabled the Zero-Waste Packaging Act. The Act would require that all consumer product packaging is either recyclable or compostable.
In March, ELC Legal Director Calvin Sandborn presented our work on marine plastics pollution at the University of Oregon. In May, Calvin presented before  the House of Commons Standing Committee on Environment and Sustainable Development.

In June, the federal government announced they intend to ban single-use plastics and hold companies responsible for plastic waste. Thanks to Jack Knox for acknowledging the seed of this federal idea began at the ELC.
2018-19 ANNUAL REPORT is now available online. Check it out to see our what we got up to last year. Thanks to our supporters, we delivered over 4,000 hours of pro bono legal assistance to communities across BC. 
VICTORIA AND VANCOUVER ALUMNI! THANK YOU for coming out to see us at the bi-annual ELC Alumni Receptions in Vancouver and Victoria. We loved spending time with you, and we look forward to our next gatherings in 2021 (which will be the ELC’s 25th anniversary!)
THANK YOU to First Nations Women Advocating for Responsible Mining and Amnesty International for partnering with the ELC on the Stand for Water event that featured a screening of the documentary Uprivers and a post-film discussion with Nuskmata (FNWARM), Tara Scurr (AI) and Deborah Curran (ELC).
CONGRATULATIONS to Melinda Skeels (Clinic Spring 2006) on becoming a Partner in Ratcliff & Company earlier this year. Melinda was in the first round of ELC articling students, and she is featured in our Spotlight.
CONGRATULATIONS to ELC Fellow Josh Patterson for his appointment as Executive Director of the Law Foundation of British Columbia (pictured here with Executive Director Deborah Curran at the Law Foundation’s 50th Anniversary reception). The Law Foundation is one of the ELC’s longstanding major funders.
CONGRATULATIONS to Sarah Elwood (Intensive Clinic 2012-13) on her engagement. All the best to you and Jason.
CONGRATULATIONS to Drew Mildon (Summer 2004 Clinic) and his wife Dr Athena Madan on the birth of Deven Francisco James Madan-Mildon on March 19, 2019.
