Global Game Jam® 2018 - let's get the Jam on.
#GGJ18 : Jammer registration is open, site sign ups open only for five more weeks! 
Sign up today for Global Game Jam ® 2018, taking place this January from Friday 26 to Sunday 28. Currently over 3300 jammers have already registered in 432 jam sites across 83 countries, and it's still growing! More locations are added every day, so see our live status map for the latest updates.

We are also excited to welcome five new countries (so far!) for GGJ18: Uganda, MadagascarEthiopiaDominican Republic and Kenya!

No GGJ18 event near you? There is still time to register a jam site! If you have been thinking about registering but have not yet applied, now is the time. Register your jam location by January 5th. The only things you need to open a jam site are a dedicated organizer and a jam venue with internet access. Read our GGJ manual and frequently asked questions to learn more about setting up a site.

If your local site is not accepting registrations via GlobalGameJam.org yet, check with them directly as they may have a local sign up process.

Important reminders for organisers and jammers


1. Join the GGJ18 online communities. Keep tabs on the latest GGJ18 updates via our Facebook page and group, or on Twitter using the #GGJ18 hashtag. Jam organizers, be sure to join our network on Slack; request access by emailing help@globalgamejam.org.

2. Attend our live Slack Q&A sessions. In early January we're hosting a series of live chat sessions open to all jam organizers who have questions or requests regarding GGJ18. Make sure you join up to the #site-organizers Slack channel for more details.

3. Send us your GGJ18 event posters. We're creating a GGJ18 poster showcase. If you're a jam organizer, make sure you have a poster created for your site and post it into #posters Slack channel or email it to us via help@globalgamejam.org!

4. Prepare for GGJ18. Check out our list of jammer resources to help you get ready for the big event!
GGJ18 on Twitch!

GGJ18 will be broadcast around the world via Twitch once again! We’ll be running our central channel, and hosting selected sites around the globe, in addition to exciting new content from our sponsors.

Bake a cake for GGJ18

GGJ 2018 is going to be our 10th Global Game Jam®, and what better way to celebrate than with birthday cake!

We want your help to mark the occasion by baking something and celebrating with your fellow jammers at your local GGJ site

Bake a traditional birthday cake, some cupcakes, something savory or something completely different, then bring it along and help us celebrate 10 years of innovation, experimentation and collaboration.

Susan Gold - Meeting the community

Founder of the Global Game Jam® and GGJNEXT™, Susan Gold is about to embark upon a worldwide  journey to visit the Global Game Jam Community, in search of the essence of jam and to explore how members of the GGJ community use jam as a creative process.

Gold is going out to the community that has fostered the Global Game Jam to learn it’s secrets and meet the people that have made the event such an amazing success. While traveling around the world, Gold will consult, hold workshops and even meet with legislators. Susan’s goal will be to answer the question, what makes jamming work so well and hopefully try to derive that essence into better, creative work spaces for the future.

The early part of Susan’s itinerary is set, with Italy in December, North Africa (Egypt, Tunisia) and Malta in January and the Mideast (UAE, Jordan, Israel) in February.  If you are interested in hosting Susan or having her speak at an event or come to your city, please go to her website: http://susan.gold or email her to check her travel schedule or propose a visit to your country.

Where are they now? Resonance

Resonance, made during the GGJ 2017 at the PONG site in Natal (Brazil), is an original platformer which requires players to use their voice in order to clear the way and make a path forward.

Before the jam, the Demerara Games team had set an objective: to make a game that people would enjoy seeing others play. Having only 48 hours available forced them to reduce the amount of time spent discussing game mechanics and art direction, focusing instead on implementing, testing and discovering what made the game fun, in order to complete it before the deadline.

The proudest moment for the team was seeing it being played everywhere after its release, including a streamer that got his dog to help him by howling. Demerara Games realised they had a game that could be played in co-op, one person on the controller and another one with the voice, creating an incredible level of accessibility to the game they hadn’t envisioned before.

A new version of the game, with a revamped art style, is planned by the end of the year.
