New issue of MOMENTUM is out

Research advances from the faculty, staff, and students at the College of Engineering are a remarkable driver of the local, state, national, and global economy. The college is making the most of the significant investment from donors, industry partners, and agencies at all levels of government, turning research funding into the tools, products, and services that are fueling our bright future. Oregon State researchers win award at international conference

A team of researchers led by Roberto Albertani, associate professor of mechanical engineering, was awarded a prize for their poster and presentation, “Automatic Intelligent Eagle Detection, Deterrent and Blade-Event Monitoring,” by the European Academy of Wind Energy at the WindEurope Offshore 2019 conference in Copenhagen on Nov. 28.

The team included College of Engineering students Kyle Clocker, Casandra Davis, Congcong Hu, Matthew Johnston, Li Peng, Sinisa Todorovic, and Johnny Vang. Other collaborators are Todd Katzner and Manuela Huso from the United States Geological Survey, the High Desert Museum, the National Renewable Energy Laboratory’s National Wind Technology Center, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, and Mesalands Community College. Funding for the research was from the U.S Department of Energy’s Office of Energy Efficiency & Renewable Energy.

Clean Energy Bridge to Research REU/RET Program

Application deadline: Feb. 14, 2020.  
Clean Energy Bridge to Research is a summer research program run by the Clean Energy Institute and Undergraduate Research Program at the University of Washington. The program is funded by the National Science Foundation. CEBR supports a select group of undergraduates, community or tribal college students, and teachers to participate in authentic research in solar, energy storage, and grid technologies under the mentorship of UW’s world-class faculty and grad students. CEBR builds on the success of the now-completed Hooked On Photonics REU program. More ...

FE Review Course Open for Registration

The Institute of Industrial and Systems Engineers (IISE) club at Oregon State is hosting the annual FE Review Course during Winter Term 2020 (exact dates on website, link below). This course is specifically designed to assist OSU engineering students who are studying for the FE Exam. The following subjects are covered: Mathematics, Probability and Statistics, Engineering Economics, Electrical Fundamentals, Statics, Dynamics, Strength of Materials, Materials Science, Thermodynamics, Fluid Mechanics, and Heat Transfer.  Registration includes access to digital recordings of each lecture and notes on Canvas through Sept. 1, 2020.

The cost of the course is $100 for OSU students if you sign up online before December 16. The cost will be $125 after December 16th. If you have any questions, please contact

OSG 2020 Winter Fellowship

Full fellowship funding for graduate students interested in coastal resource management and policy. The nine fellowship positions start in August 2020 and are available with the California State Coastal Conservancy, the coastal programs in Delaware, Guam, Maryland, Texas, and U.S. Virgin Islands, and three of our Digital Coast partners, including the Association of State Floodplain Managers (in partnership with the Coastal States Organization), the National Estuarine Research Reserve Association, and The Nature Conservancy. Air Force Science & Technology Fellowship Program

The Air Force Science & Technology Fellowship Program offers nationally competitive fellowship awards to postdoctoral and senior scientists to perform collaborative research at U.S. Air Force research facilities across the country. Since 1966, the Air Force S&T Enterprise has hosted over 1,000 fellows under the NRC Research Associateship Programs and many of these researchers have gone on to successful careers in government laboratories. The Air Force Science & Technology Fellowship Program continues this tradition of providing high quality research opportunities with Air Force scientists and engineers at Air Force Research Laboratory, the Air Force Institute of Technology, and the U.S. Air Force Academy.
