What happened on Maxabella Loves in December

Slowly over the past year I've put together a Photography for absolute beginners series. It's now 11 posts long (gosh!) and covers everything to get you started using a DSLR (or just your point + shoot in a more meaningful way!). This month I shared a series of exercises to help you improve your 'eye'. Go on, take pictures every day this month!

Other things we've been doing:
125 fab things for kids to do at home
Reviewing movies boys + girls both like
Entertaining in (easy, breezy) style
Finding my way around my new blog
Well, Christmas might have come and gone, but the sweet DIY ideas I rounded up from around the interwebs are good all year around. If you love making things or if you've always wanted to have a go (and the new year ahead is THE year to do it!), my list is a really good place to start.

Other things we've been making:
Some new year's resolutions for kids
An over-size pennant for your wall
Christmas traditions and cosiness
A cardboard gingerbread cubby
Elf donuts (put them on next year's list!)
The week between Christmas and New Year's Eve is surely the quietest, most luscious week of the year. We set up by the pool in the morning and barely leave all day. Lunch is chicken wraps or tuna salad. As we settle into lazy holidays (or for me, lazy by day, ridiculous by night as I play work catch up!), I encourage the children more and more to just 'do your thing'. Watching them discover just what their 'thing' is, is surely one of the delights of parenting.

More things we talked about this month:
10 Qs to ask yourself as the year closes
10 ways to make today a good day
Why playing in the street matters

I love the reflection and planning that inspires me at this time of year. I ask myself some hard questions about the year just gone to climb to a jumping off point for the new year. Nothing fancy, just 10 questions that help me arrive at my 'one word' for the year ahead. I'd love you to pop over and answer my 10 questions too - it's always so nice getting to know you!

If you are also tired of New Year's Resolutions that abruptly make you feel like a failure sometime in early January, perhaps a defining word for the year is what you need too? I've been using the one word approach for about six years now (and blogging it for four) and it's done wonders for my self-esteem :). I'll put a linky up on my blog at a minute past midnight tonight and you an link up whenever you feel like it, or just share your word for the year in the comments.

Happy new year to you and yours (whatever your plans tonight!). May the year ahead bring you nothing but fabness.

Thanks from my heart, as always, for reading.

PS - you probs noticed I've ditched Heartfelt Living and gone back to Maxabella Loves. It just didn't quite work for me, but I'm still heartfelt and I'm still living - just in a tagline kinda way.
