What is mental health, and what can the church do to best serve people with mental health challenges? Hear from participants in the National Benevolent Association (NBA) Mental Health Initiative Task Teams, as we share this video resource as part of Mental Health Awareness Month.

NBA Mental Health Initiative Shares Resources

May is Mental Health Awareness Month. Through our Mental Health Initiative, the National Benevolent Association (NBA) is contributing to this campaign on our website and social media by sharing webinars, blog posts, and videos from Disciples across the life of the church. Raise your awareness of mental health in the next few weeks by visiting our Resources page to find materials you can share in your congregations and communities!

Vision, Mission & Core Values: Building Blocks for the Nonprofit Ministry

Building Blocks for the Nonprofit Ministry
WEBINAR: Vision, mission, and core values animate and focus the life of a not-for-profit ministry. Vision inspires the work. Mission tells the organization and its constituents, “this is of us.” Core values guide behavior and ensure that work is done with integrity and consistency.

Rev. Rebecca Hale, NBA Executive Vice President, and Rev. Chris Dorsey, President of Higher Education and Leadership Ministries, will focus on why a ministry should spend time developing these guiding statements and naming their "why and how." Register here >>

NBA XPLOR Reunion:
Root Down

XPLOR Reunion video highlights!
In February, we hosted an NBA XPLOR Reunion, gathering with 25 Alumni Residents and three Spiritual Companions. The weekend included worship; time for fellowship and renewal; conversation and resources around development and leadership opportunities; and a visual exercise allowing XPLOR Alumni to process the impact of the XPLOR experience.

We are grateful to the Theodore and Beulah Beasley Foundation for the grant funding that made this event possible, and we look forward to reuniting with future cohorts of XPLOR Alumni in the coming years!

Introducing NBA Peer Groups: Prison and Jail Ministries

Prison and Jail Ministries
Peer Group, 2016-18
From 2016-18, the NBA Prison and Jail Ministries Peer Group has connected ministry leaders in a small setting designed to cultivate support, mutual dialogue, spiritual renewal, and learning. This first cohort focused on public narrative—how to share their stories and clearly convey the significant impact of ministries through the context of prisons and jails. The NBA helped participants workshop and prepare their narratives, and then recorded and produced videos with each ministry. Watch these videos via our playlist here, and learn more at nbacares.org/prison-and-jail.

Meet the Beasley Foundation

NBA XPLOR Reunion group
"NBA XPLOR has been supported by the Theodore and Beulah Beasley Foundation due to our desire to help young adults who are considering a life of care and service and to perhaps aid each of them in discovering their desired vocation and purpose. We believe the reunion event, at the end of the program term, serves an important purpose, as it offers a time to come together for discipleship, information and experience sharing, and networking."

Victoria Beasley Vanderslice,
President & Executive Director
Theodore and Beulah Beasley Foundation, Inc.
The NBA has been working with and advocating around issues of mental health and wellness for the last two years through our Mental Health Initiative. We have heard and responded to Disciples seeking to do more to encourage mental health in our communities and congregations!

This is ministry only made possible through the support of people like you. Will you join the NBA with a gift today, supporting vital health and social service ministries of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) like our Mental Health Initiative?
