In Memoriam: Former NBA President, Richard R. Lance

Mr. Richard R. “Rick” Lance, former President of the National Benevolent Association, died on April 21, 2016. A career U.S. Air Force Officer and lifelong Disciple, Lance served as NBA President from 1982 to 1996, in addition to several other leadership roles across the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). Mental Health Book Study

As the NBA works to create meaningful ways to acknowledge mental health in the life of the church, our staff recently participated in a six-week Lenten book study focused on mental health, faith, and inclusion. 

NBA Launches Prison & Jail Ministries Peer Group

In April, prison and jail ministry practitioners gathered in Louisville, Kentucky, to attend the “Reaching Individuals Behind and Beyond the Bars” conference and to kick off the NBA Prison & Jail Ministries Peer Group. This select group of ministry workers, both clergy and lay, spent time hearing stories of re-entering citizens and families of the incarcerated as they shared the challenges of navigating life beyond the bars.
