Summer Pop-Up Exhibits

May to September, 2014

On May 10th, Playland's opening day, the museum will offer a preview of its summer pop-up exhibit from 12-3 pm in the North Bathhouse at Playland. The exhibit will feature KEVA planks, thousands of small, uniform building planks that allow for endless building possibilities, incorporate elements of art and architecture, and offer great opportunities for communal interaction.  Hours are still being finalized for the remainder of May, with a fixed schedule starting June 1st.
We will also be adding a second exhibit titled "Build Your Own Roller Coaster" in June.  An interactive, hands-on experience that  involves the creation of your own roller coaster, from design to testing what makes the best design.  Where does the ball get its energy from?  How many different types of coasters can be built?  Visitors will have a chance to make discoveries about force and energy, friction and stability, while at the same time having fun.
The exhibits will run through September - please call for hours (914) 421-5050.  Hours will also be posted on our website and Facebook page once they are available.

Museum Without Walls

Re-Creation Play Event at YMCA

Kids ages 6-12 at the White Plains YMCA's vacation camp explored, invented, and created with loads of recyclables provided by Museum Playworkers on Tuesday, April 15.  This unstructured play event encouraged the Y's students to make or do stuff on their own or with partners rather than relying on store-bought toys.  The resulting mess yielded hours of fun and cooperative learning.

And the Award Goes To...

The Milton A. Williams, Jr. Scholars in Education Award recognizes the invaluable role that educators play in the lives of children and honors recipients for their positive impact on education.  We are pleased to announce this year's winner, Beverly McAllister, for her outstanding work launching the Museum Without Walls program.  Since 2010, the Museum Without Walls has reached over 10,000 kids with hands-on lessons that inspire curiosity and a love of learning.
