PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

Happy Fall!

Even with the temperatures still hovering in the 90’s, change is in the air for cooler days and nights – the reason many of us live in Phoenix. Change is also in the air for the Junior League of Phoenix with the votes passed this week by the general membership to have a slight increase in our annual dues to help strengthen the financial health of our organization as well as a more refined focus area – Fighting Hunger in the Greater Phoenix Community. With this fine-tuned impact statement, we will now start the process to choose new community partners that work in the hunger space. These partnerships are our gift of resources and volunteer time that help bridge gaps between their capacity and our shared vision. As our refined focus statement further states: The Junior League of Phoenix, along with a coalition of community partners, is working towards a food secure community through access, empowerment and education. We know that we will only move the needle on hunger by working together.

How can our members and community help us with this goal? One way is by participating in Mission: Unstoppable later this month. This is a week-long event that showcases what JLP has accomplished in our community these past 85 years and what we would like to continue doing for 85 plus years longer! Please share our social media posts, contribute to a crowdrising campaign or attend one of our nominally priced events open to the public. More information on this jam-packed week is below!

Warm Regards,
Wendy K. Brooks
President, 2018-2020

TRAINING NEWS

JLP is comprised of a diverse group of women whose strengths and passions are reflected in their training. For this year’s JLP 360, the Member Training committee will cover topics including how to create wills and trusts, how to “survive the sandwich generation time period,” how to establish college funds, how to take care of elderly parents, and so much more.

Not only does the Member Training committee cover a wide array of helpful and interesting topics, but they also hold JLP: 360 Panel Discussions at points throughout the year. These discussions tackle the life-changing events that every woman must face from her early twenties through retirement and cover diverse topics such as: Paying for Education, Self-Care, Wills and Trusts, The Color of Emotions etc.

Developing the Potential of Women is a core tenet of the Junior League of Phoenix. Are you interested in investing in yourself, learning about these topics, taking on leadership in an organization committed to helping you grow? JLP Announces Mission Week

The Junior League of Phoenix was founded 85 years ago, and through the years, we have built a legacy of collaborating with non-profit partners in the Phoenix metro area. We have mobilized our members to address urgent community needs, created signature, direct service programs, and added capacity to essential non-profits, through volunteerism.

This year, as we celebrate this milestone anniversary, it’s our mission to re-educate the community about the Junior League of Phoenix, who we are, and what we do!

Join us Monday, Oct. 21 – Friday, Oct. 25, as we throw a mission-centric fundraiser week!

Help support the Junior League of Phoenix Foundation by making a pledge in the Birdies for Charity® competition! Birdies for Charity® is a pledge drive for local non-profits in which they seek pledges based on the total number of birdies made during the 2020 Waste Management Phoenix Open. To pledge, each person assigns a monetary value to the number of Birdies, for example $0.01 per Birdie would be a $15 pledge if there were 1,500 birdies during the Open.

What is a Birdie? A “Birdie” is a score of one stroke better than “Par” for any hole on the golf course. “Par is the normal expected score of a golf professional on any given hole.
